According to the Utah Air Traveler Study prepared by the Utah State University, air travelers spent $6,153,000.00 during June, July and August as compared to $3,507,700 for the same months of 1971. The single largest increase came through air tourists defined as those who visit Utah for recreational purposes. During 1971s summer, they spent $840,-90A year later that expenditure nearly tripled to $2,392,000. Last summer each air tourist stayed in Utah an average of 4.8 days and spent $85.28. These are very encouraging statistics in terms of the length of stay problem we have been experiencing in Utah, says the Utah Travel Council: Our motor vehicle traveler is spending an average of 1.3 days in Utah and our objective now is to improve the motor tourist visit to the same proportion as the air traveler. This is what we are working on now. Salt Lake International Airport felt the heaviest effect of the increase. During the three summer months, - 57,000 more travelers deplaned to total a new summer record of 359,356 passengers. One significant change in this summers visitor was his use of rental cars and buses. Expenditures rose from $813,800 to with many car rental agencies reporting record breaking sales. Nearly 32 per cent of the air travelers came from California. Another 23 per cent came from the surrounding states. Ninety-si- x per cent of the visitors were 0. . $1,-726,3- Another record smashing gain in savings is expected to be made by Utahs insured savings and loan associations when the final figures are tallied for 1972, it was reported this week by Howard C. Bradshaw, chairman of the Utah Savings and Loans Public Information Committee. All indications show that the previous record high of $97,325,-77- 3 net gain in savings recorded in 1971 will be surpassed in Doctor in the Kitchen'9 by Laurence M.
