Morrill presented petitions asking for an appropriation for the World's fair. Referred to the committee on appropriations. Greaves, in behalf of the committee on agricultural reported back II. K. 17 for the protection of llr culture and recommended that it be passed. . McCuistou of the committee on judiciary reported that there had been enrolled and fowarded to the government C. F. 1, relating to polygamy, and council's tile 7, releasing from attachment certain articles of household house-hold furniture. These have been enrolled Hid forwarded to the government. House tile 17, relutiug to bee culture, passed its second reading and was referred to the committee on agriculture. Further consideration of Ihe home rule memorial was postponed until tomorrow. Tho reading of the bill began at section 21, providing for the salary of treasurer and a deputy city treasurer. The auctions relating to the office of city auditor passed without amendment. Mr. Strgent, lu section 'Jo, providing for the publication of an annual statement of re. ceipts anddisburscments, otTcriugun amend incut that the publication be made in the paper having the largest circulation. The amendment failed to get a second. To the. section providing for the election of officers and terms thereof Mr. Irvine offered of-fered an amendment making the term of office of mayor and other city officers two years Instead of one, as provided in the bill. Mr. Feiry advocated a provision that would separate the city and town elections from the territorial and national elections. He favored the ideaof placing the municipal elections on some date In the spring. The amendments by Mr. Irvine were lost.
