Enrollment figures released by College President Jay L. Nelson show 2,839 students have signed up for full time day courses. Another 1,895 are enrolled in night classe for a total enrollment of 4,374, or 391 more than last year at this time. That is a 9 percent increase. Full time day school enrollment is 164 or 6.1 percent, higher than last years fall quarter enrollment of 2,675. Evening school enrollment has increased 227 students, or 13.6 percent. In addition nearly 220 students are enrolled in programs with the Salt Lake Skill Center, a group of courses operated on the Utah Tech downtown campus. Announcing the enrollment figures, President Nelson says, We are particularly pleased as these figures even surpass what we predicted. It also shows that despite predictions of enrollment declines vocational technical education has maintained its appeal of the past few years. This year Utah Tech shows significant student numbers in such courses as building construction, electricity, electronics, welding, health occupations, art, refrigeration and air conditioning, auto trades, business subjects, barbering and others. The College has also added new courses in brick masonry, transportation management, hotel management and fashion merchandising. Utah Techs enrollment this year is the highest in the 25 year history of the school. Full time day school fall quarter enrollment this year is about double that of five years ago, when the figure was 1,539.
