Well, those, girls Iihvo either all been married off or have ilicd, for tlione here thin yeiir are e iuiiiiini; on the liiffli tide of lires reform, ami unilflr the leadership of Mrs. Trunk Stuart Parker of Chicago, propose to revolutionize the world.' The first step taken in the matter was by the "Woman's Club," which held a siicret conference presided over by an-other revolutionist named Kniily Jlunt- - ititun Miller, atul from which every man was excluded. Mrs. Parker took the Hour and exhibited an array of dresses, skirts, tights, underclothing etc., both on and off her splen-- I did figure, in a way that captivated ev-ery woman present, and there were a great many of us, I assure you. All the time she was showing hor wonderful clothing she was carrying on a haran-gue against the present mode of dress-ing that made every corset, every waist-band, every gaiter and every clumsy petticoat in the room ache. As she pro-ceeded she warmed up to the subject and became so enthusiastic that she got both feel in one 'leg' of a divided skirt, and then we all laughed." Miss Snipe's aunt, tin Mrs. (ioose'ucrrin referred to above, was a Miss Push, of Conocs. Her husband is immensely wealthy. They keep ten servants, besides n governess. Next week will be a notable one at the theater. The Lyceum Theater company will open on Wednesday night anil the first play ottered will be "The Charity Hall." This is by the same authors its "The Vif" and is written in the same happy vein. While all the papers in San Francisco gave the highest praise to the company and admitted that the play had as many strong situations as "The Wife" the one attack made upon it was, singularly enough, the same as had been made upon the earlier play four years previous that all the char-acters were too good. 'This curious fault will in reality be a recommenda-tion to thoso who visit the perfor-mances. The Lyceum company will also produce "The Idler" during the engagement. Friday "The Wife" will be given, and at least one performance of that charming old comedy, "Old Heads and Young Hearts," will be given. - On Monday Mr. A. M Wood was marrie t by Judge Zane to Miss Talula, the last unmarried daughter of lirig-ha- Young. Mrs. Wood is a lovely and accomplished woman, a graduate of the Dcseiet university, who possesses innumerable friends, and is a sislerof Mrs. Spencer Clawson, Mrs. Nettie Y. Snell and Mrs. Eva Y. l'avis. There is a young society man in Salt Lake who has been on the verge of committing murder all day. Yester-day b stopped in one pf the fashion-able restaurants and had an excellent lunch put up for four himself Rnd three young ladies. The party was going to spend the evening at the beach. To add a zest to the evening's enjoyment the young gentleman placed a couple of bottles of rhampagne in the basket. He left the basket iu a Main street store for a few minutes. Later he called for it ami t!e merry party started for the lake. All the way to the beach tho young man talked of the allinity between lake breezes and spring chicken, gorgeous sunsets and sparkling champagne. Jle had the party so pleaded with anticipa-tion of the coming feast that no one in the crowd noticed the passing of (inr-de- City or commented upon the beau-tifd- l scenery around Saltair. After splashing around in the billows for a good hour and a half, the party gathered around a table in one of the booths and prepared to sproad the lunch. Lifting the cover to the basket a sight met the young man's eyes that caused his necktie to slip over the top of his collar and almost choke him. The lunch lift had boasted about was not there but there was an allegorical collection of old shoes, discarded hosiery, a brick bat, nic nacks and broken chunks of wood, pieces of lace and a corkscrew. No roasted breast of chicken en-deared bis gaze to the basket; no bright silver tip on the top of cham-pagne bottles was to be seen. The young ladtes screamed "Oh." "oh," "oh!" "Isn't it too mean for anything!" while the recording angel kepi a host of stenographers busily engaged taking down the young man's thoughts. It was an awful hungry crowd that came back to town. That is the reason why one young man has been on the verge all day of committing murder. MKS. PAKKKK'8 I'RKDICAMRNT She ExbthlU the lll.ld.d Skirt and Gets Both Feet Into One I.es; ol It. The new resort on State)' street is becoming tremen-dously popular. There are very few Utah pioneers who are not familiar with the name of that popular favorite Col. Ed Kelley. The colonel has a host of friends and admirers and while ha may not have lived here so long as those grand old pio-neers who made the wonder-ful overland excursion to this territory in '47, he has taken time by the forelock, as it were, and improved each shining hour so that through earnest and persistent efforts on his own part he has made the acquaintance ofalmostthe ENTIRE COMMUNITY who know him in no other light than a man of fair and honorable bus-iness methods and one who is always on the alert for some amusement or enter-tainment for his friends. We may add that Mr. Kelley has recently consolidated his in-terests with those of Mr Chas. Reilley who, as an ar-tistic dispensor of sparkling beverages and a jolly good fellow, is too well known to tha Salt Lake fraternity to need an introduction through tht medium of these columns. 11EKIJKKT SLA I) E, Ass't Man'W The Elks Saloon Opposite the Theater is to be in charge and under the management of Mr. Reilley while Mr. Kelley will devote his entire time and attention to the new resort he has recently established at No. 22S State street where at any and all times he will be glad to welcome his old friends and patrons with the warm hearted cordiality so peculiar to himself. The two sample rooms; under the control of this gen tleman are said to be stocked with the finest and rarest im-ported goods that can be found anywhere. The line o Fine Inptei & Domestic Cigars are the finest procurable and as a matter of fact many com-pliments are lavished upon the proprietor regarding the able and efficient manner in which these institutions are conducted and it. may be .safely said that there are few if any men in this particular vicinity that can be compared with Col. Eel Kelley as regards the management of a first-clas- s and highlyres-pectabl- e sample room. The new gymnasium run in connection with the .Elks Sample Room, opposite the theater, is quite a prominent feature and deserves the most liberal patronage of the public.
