The Heaver L'tuniun says: "A rumor is current that the famous Ialton mine, Bear Marysville, has 'petered' out. An additional shaft is, how-ever, being sunk, and it is thought that when it taps the ore body the present force of miners may be doubled or per-haps trebled. Some lime ago it was annouueed that Messrs. Adam Kent and Win. Pal-mer had discovered what was believed to be a coal mine up Logan canon, some Bix miles from Logan. Since then the gontlemen have been working away, Baying little and are there now. So far as can be ascertained they are more and more satisfied every day with their work, and have arranged for an ex-amination of the property by coal mining experts. The Heaver L'tonian says: "Superin-tendent J. H. Hurfein of the Cove Creek sulphur mines, was in town Sat-urday arranging for the neteasary teams to haul the daily product of the sulphur relinery to Hlack Kock station, on the Union i'acific. railroad. The re-sumption of active operations only commenced last week, the number of men employed being twelve, aud the net product of retiued sulphur being about teu tons daily. As soon, how-ever, as the buildings and works can be put in a more thorough condition, it is the intention of Mr. Hurfein to put on moid meu and increaso the output of mineral until it reaches at least 100 tons of refined sulphur daily." MONTANA NOTES. The statistics of live stock in Mon-tana are practically compiled and rnaka a great showing for the industry. There are 1.51,1,000 sheep, valued at 788,000, or au average of 9J.45 each. Of horses there are 100,000, valued at $1,41)2,000, an average of not quite 'M per head. The as-sessors found only 0000 hogs in the state, and they were assessed at an average of $,".3j par head. The cattle on Montana's thousand hills number 641,000, assessed at T,770,OO0, or an average value of $14.08 The average rate of assessment in the state is Sit per cent of the market value.
