The Mollie Gibson waa made the Bcene yesterday morning of a terrible ter-rible accident, which caused the death k three men. The men were in the shaft, and in order to get rid of the dirt and rock, bulk-headed bulk-headed the shaft at tho fourth level and made a chute to tho lower level, adjoining the workings. The chute became choked up and water was poured on the shale and the rock In It to make it move. Through carelessness the men stood hn the mass of dirt, taking no precaution for their safety. The dirt suddenly started down the chute carrying Michael Egger, aged 44; W. L. Sharp, aged 'JO; and Michael Caples, aged 25, with it. They were suffocated. William Bailey was also on the dirt, nut caught hold of a timber iu the roof and saved his life. |
