Show WElCHING THE LADIES. A Gentleman Paid to Aeoert atn the Avor-dupolw Avor-dupolw of the Fair Ladles Present. A delightful sooial was given last evening eve-ning In Hammond Hall by the Young Ladies' Missionary society of the First Cogregational church. The plan adopted adopt-ed for getting the people acquainted was a novel one. As a person entered the room a slip of paper was handed them, on which was written a part of some familiar quotation; the remainder of which was on a corresponding slip, in the possession of some young lady. In the course of the evening, after having hav-ing found the rest of the quotation, the gentleman escorted tho young ludy to the platform, where a , pair of scales had been placed, and according to her weight so would the gentleman pay. The Missionary society is pleased with tbe success of this their first social, the society having been organized only re-oently. re-oently. After a social time refreshments refresh-ments were served by the young ladies and all present expressed themselves as having spent a pleasant evening and it is their wish that the Young Ladies' Missionary society would prosper. |
