Session of Horticulturists, Horti-culturists, First Annual Convention. ; The second day's session of the. first annual meeting of the Utah State Horticultural Hor-ticultural society, convened In the City Council chambers at the city and county coun-ty building this morning. The closing business of the organization was transacted trans-acted this afternoon and the election of officers held. . The first speaker this morning was County Commissioner Judge Stanford of Ogden. The subject of bis address j was,- "Utah Markets." The speaker asserted as-serted that should the Utah fruit growers grow-ers continue the present qualities of their exported products, the demand for Utah fruit would be unlimited. Utah fruit, he contended, ranked with that ot California. In the past year 200 carloads car-loads of fruit were shipped out of the State, and from Weber county alone slxt-flve carloads were exported. "The Making of Fruit Buds" was the subject of a paper read by Prof. Robert Rob-ert 8. Northrop, horticulturist at the experimental station. John P. Soren-sen. Soren-sen. Inspector, Salt Lake county, discussed dis-cussed "The Work, of an Inspector." Other papers were: "Choosing and Planting the Tree," B. H. Bower, Provo; "Care of the Peach Orchard," Robert E. Wilson; . "Advantages of the Utah Horticulturist," J. E. Cox, Salt Lake City. Following these papers there was a general discussion. At the close of the morning session an exhibition of spray pumps, machinery and boxes. The afternoon meeting was given up to the reading of papers by Prof. E. D. Ball, entomogollst, experimental station; sta-tion; J. D. Wadley. Pleasant Grove; Joseph Jo-seph Barber, Ogden; W. G.-.Cragun, Ogden. . The following is a partial list of the officers whose names were recommended recommend-ed for election. President, Thomas Judd. St. Georges secretary, A. H. Snow, Brigham City, and four vice-presidents. These were not named until late this afternoon. The officers, with Prof. E. D. Ball, W. G. Cragun. R. E. Wilson and Jesse Smith, will form the directorate. |
