Show LETTER BY JIM HILL 'Feature of Last General Session of the Irriga- tion Congress. PORTLAND, Or.. Aug. 24. After two days devoted to deliberating in sections the National Irrigation congress assembled as-sembled In eeneral session today for. the second and last time. Before the consideration of the business of' the congress, the submission of reports, election of officers and selecting next year's meeting place, William E. Curtis Cur-tis of Chicago made an address on the subject of "Irrigation in India." Mr. Curtis paper .was a highly interesting inter-esting description of the Irrigation projects pro-jects instituted by the British Government Govern-ment in order to do away with famines arising from drouths In India and elsewhere. else-where. Mr. Curtis paper was followed by the reading of a letter to the congress from President James J. Hill of the Great Northern railway and the submitting of committee reports. Mr. Hill's letter to the congress was read by E. W. Eberlin of San Francisco. Fran-cisco. Who waa introduced by Gov. Pardee Par-dee of California to the congress. Gov. Pardee said that Mr. Hill was unable ta appear before the congress In person, owing to the serious illness of Mrs. Hill. . |
