Though the fair tva not declared opened until 1 o'clock, hundreds were on the ground early, arriving in the rniddie of the forenoon. Many of thtse were tardy exhibitors who were putting the finishing touches on their displays. The crowd began to arrive shortly after 1 o'clock, and soon the fair grounds and buildings presented an animated appearance. Everything went as smoothly as clockwork and there were only a few minor disappointments. Among these was the delay in tho balloon ascension. The balloon was scheduled to shoot cloudward at 4:30 but was an hour and thirty minutes late. The ascent was a thrilling one, however, when it did occur. The association has an innovation this year. Heretofore there have been few attractions aside from the exhibits, this ypar a whole free circus is but ' thrown in" so that everyone can get the worth of his money and then COOO cv , ?, Shirt anI drumn.
