Show The Salt Lake Telegram. TL'KSDAY EVENING, JULY 7,' SALT--LAK- E -- 9 AND HE LENA Opening Game of Season Under New Plan; Locals Want Weaver 'for' Salt Lake makes her debut In the Xation leasuo . this afternoon For the first time in the history of the State local fans will have an opportunity to see the national game as ' It Is' Played in other Western cities. The I ortland and Helena teams arrived from the north this, morning. The former aggregation was at once adopted the local club, and christened the Salt "Lake Mormons. At 4 o'clock "this afternoon the teams will line up for the first contest, and a record-breaklcrowd is expected to be present to cheer for the adopted team. The exact lineup for this afternoon is not known. Jack Grim, the present manager of the Portland team, will hare charge for some time yet, and he will choose the line-u- p for this afternoon. Clark and Fulir.. r will probably 'be the only local men to take part today, although Cook may be given a chance. The question of a club manager is Ftill undecided, but the local directors would likely decide it instantly were they sure of setting "Buck" Weaver for the position. The "old man" was promised to Salt Lake by the league magnates, but McCloskey is slow to release him. McCloskey's action in this matter has caused considerable comment in the Northwest. Butte papers are reminding McCloskey of the fact that the Smokey City transferred half GRIDIRON ASEBALL ICE TOPULPIT her team to San Francisco for the good of the league and now, they add. Mack will not give Salt Lake one man in order to get the game started here. The teams will march down Main street preceded by a band this afternoon, and all fans are invited to join in and follow the players to the ball grounds. Mayor Thompson will pitch the first ball across the diamond. Famous Football Halfback to Be an Open-A- ir Preacher. NATIONAL LEAGUE. . r Standing of the Clubs. Pittsburg New York Chicago ...
