Show Model Cities Project Deals With Minority Problems in S.L by Jerry Carter The Leadership and Education Program (LEAP) directed by Jim Dooley deals with the resolution of educational problems of young minorities in the Salt Lake City area. An Advisory Board of minority members will assist in the specific educational problems. The program is housed at the Nettie Gregory Center and cannot focus on all the problems discovered because of a lack of funds and staff. Some of the problems needing attention are: 1 . ''We hope to provide opportunities for minorities within the general target area which will allow their becoming a productive citizen of society, Dooley said. The program operates with 5 staff members and 27 student employees. It started in December, 1971 with funds from the Model Cities Agency. The program has developed some short range goals which are essentially to create an atmosphere of understanding, to give work incentive and opportunities, to provide counseling for minorities by people that they can identify with and promote cultural activities, such as art, music, drama and recreation. psychologist will be available to assist with emotional problems for those who need it. Forms will also be available from Model Cities Task Forces, the Northwest CAP Council and at the door on the evening e of March 14 when the Center and the Northwest Tutoring will also be provided. The long range goal of the CAP One part-tim- e to sufficiently guide, counsel and tutor young people in program is order to build good attitudes, good work habits and to prevent them from becoming delinquent. Multi-purpos- Council will sponsor a Community Affairs Night.
