There's a lot of drinking, loud noise and rowdiness. if I wouldn't be surprised dope was being passed around here. by the Model Neighborhood News staff Environment can be defined as our surroundings which influence our lives. This week's FORUM, the space in the paper alloted to citizens for their thoughts and views environment, the physical, tangible things we see, feel, hear Our physical environment includes the houses in the city, some are vacant and death traps 'home'". Miss Karla Black, 732 Street, West High student Oakley on community issues, is focused on a segment of this community's and sometimes, smell. and near convenient shopping areas. We wish we could have found all these features in the neighborhood we like to call a safe park for children; piles of trash in the streets, noise and air pollution. Each of these annoyances affect each of us differently and it was the aim of the FORUM staff to ask the residents of the model neighborhood what problems concerning physical environment need improving. The following are the comments from citizens polled. "Since we don't have a hot lunch program this year, our environment around our school suffers. Lunch sacks and paper cups are tossed all over the grounds. Kids seem to think that the custodians are hired to clean it up, so it's okay to throw garbage around as they please. Maybe some containers for refuse would help. "Also, for some reason, I'm not sure of, the north lawn of the school grounds is torn up. Dust and weeds replace what was once grass. When it rains, the mud is a mess. Maybe they are going to build a new cafeteria there, but it is not very attractive right now." 320 West Mrs. Dirk Allart, 674 North 1st West "We need more safe parks know if this is 'physical environment', but want to see something done about safe school crossings on 1st West and Center Street. Every morning and afternoon, streams of Capitol-bountraffic make it difficult and dangerous for little children to cross these streets to get to school. The garbage from the large house next door blows all over my yard, causing a disgusting mess and odor. I'm not so young anymore to be spending a lot of time cleaning it up. "I asked the owner to build some kind of shelter for the garbage cans so the wind couldn't get at them. But he just will not went to the Board of Health, but nothing was done I about it." |
