Her big complaint with public schools is their lack of "experienced based learning." That is, the public schools will "tell" a child that 2 and 2 is four instead of letting the child experience "why" 2 and 2 is four. When asked if women were more effective as teachers than men, she replied, "Gender has nothing to do with teaching, it depends on the sensitivity of the teacher." The whole key to education in the classroom is the teacher and he or she must be sensitive to the needs of the child. - I I Manpower and Economic Dev: Augustine Morgan Task Force Coordinator - Faron Ith Call 467-941- 6 Dorothy Pulley one of the most active and community minded women around. On June 29 and every Most of us think of "the law" as speeding tickets, parking fines and anything else that brings to mind the image of a red flashing bubble atop a cruisier headed our way. Actually "the law" effects us in very personal ways which have more direct control upon our everyday lives than such things as traffic citations. There is a law which states whether or not a shopping center may be located near you. There is a law stating whether or not there may be a tavern in business at the end of your block. And there is a law stating whether or not you may build a house or apartment where you wish to, and these laws are the laws which govern and control your personal future, the future of your children, and the destiny of your neighborhood. They are called zoning laws and they are buried in volumes of city zoning records which most residents know or care little about. Because of their relative anonymity, zoning laws, when they fail to reflect the desires and status of the residents, often go unaltered, dragging the community behind in growth or destroying the sense of community for the people living there. The Model Neighborhood News staff feel these laws are of vital concern to every resident of the community and therefore, will begin a series of articles on zoning ordinances, changes, proposed zoning laws and information from regular zoning meetings.
