Show Leah Christiansen directs Center program. Center Provides Services for v. Model Cities Residents by Kirk Terry Too many of the people in nursing homes are reluctant to be there and many actually don't require those types of services. Mrs. Leah Christiansen, president. Adult Daytime Center, 1425 South 700 East, said the experience in owning her own nursing home service is the basis for this pilot program, one of the few in the nation. She said the center is non-profand offers supervision and care for those individuals not needing the 24 hour intensive care of nursing homes. Our function, she said, is to provide a place of release of the strain on those who must care for loved ones, but find it difficult to do so on a full time basis. The center offers many activities in recreation, arts and crafts, and group activities for those left at the center during working hours. "We also act as a screening place it for nursing homes, . YOUNG WOMEN 16 to 21 The pilot Daytime Center is a segment of the Independent Living Project, Council on Aging. Center activities and working concepts are geared to provide independent living for the individuals in the center. Personal achievement in arts and crafts, group activities and also play an important part in the center, as well as in the lives of the patients. A pilot project as accomodating and capable as this one in meeting the needs for those who do not need companionship supervised care is a worthy asset to the community. Mrs. Christiansen said. Arts and crafts are organized into classes, meals are prepared and served at the center and there is a special sewing room. A unique concept of the Daytime Center is the enrollment for services at the center. If the individual concerned needs only a few hours of supervision, a day, or longer, a fee of 50 cents an hour or $100.00 a month is a relative assessed. When caring for someone must go to work or leave the individual, they can take them to the center being assured of the best care possible.
