Gardner submitted letter of resignation to the Joint Board of Commissioners and to the Model Cities Coordinating Council, vacating his position as Chairman of the Council. His letter follows: "Utah Technical College is integrating the Salt Lake Skills Center into one of its college divisions effective July 1, 1972. The Skills Center, as you may recollect, is partially funded a received two awards years ago from New Mexico and began working with her main interest and love children. Since then, she has commemorating her past 22 years of service to underprivaleged and mentally retarded children. The awards came from the Catholic Charities Organization and the Divison of Family Services. Mrs. Salazar, who is 70 years old, came to Salt Lake City donated many hours to helping these children as well as raising five of her own. She is also very active with the Social Service Task Force, the Coordinating Council of Model Cities and in helping to establish the West-sid- e e Center. by Roger Taylor twenty-tw- Mrs. Leonela Salazar has recently o -- through the Multi-purpos- Leonela Salazar Model Cities program. "As a staff member of the College it is evident there might be construed a conflict of interest in my present capacity as chairman of the Coordinating therefore present my Council. I resignation from the Coordinating Council effective July 1 , 1 972. It is my intention to so notify the Executive Committee of the Coordinating forty-seve- n Council at our next meeting, June 29th. "I am pleased to have had the opportunity of associating with the many individuals on the Coordinating Council: It is my hope to continue as a Member of the Manpower and Economic Development Task Force for the next little while, as a project close to my heart comes more fully to fruition. "Director Grundfossen and the Salt Lake Model Cities Agency staff have invariably been helpful to me personally, and I am appreciative of their support, and that also of the Commissioners toward the program." The Executive Committee of the Coordinating Council met to select candidates for the position but failed to come up with any nominations. The matter will go to the Council on July 13. Award Given For Efforts even Mr. and Mrs. George Bogue and Mrs. Bogue are active participants with several senior citizen programs, a group of residents who meet at Jackson Junior High School and the resident group meeting at the e Center. Northwest At the Northwest senior citizen group the Bogues help in serving Mr. by Kirk Terry The Model Neighborhood News is paying tribute and offering congratulations this week to George and Lou Bogue, long time residents and active members in several community programs. The Bogues recently shared with each other and family their 42nd anniversary. Multi-purpos- meals to the other citizen members and serve on the advisory planning committe at Jackson. The Bogues met each other at Pioneer Park in 1 929 while on a blind date. Mr. Bogue is a retired railroad engineer and Mrs. Bogue is a ; etired nursing home aide. Both say they occupy their time with each other, their community service, family and garden. They have four children, 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildre- n. Bea Valdez After more than a month and many hours, the job had been completed. Bea Valdez, who is the assistant to the Transportation and Highways Task Force for Model Cities, had been asked to translate pamphets from English to Spanish for the Utah Alcoholism Foundation. Bea said, ''It is absolutely necessary to reach the problem drinkers with help, whatever nationality they may be." The translation of these pamphlets is certainly a direct route to these people, and for her work she received a citation from the Utah Alcoholism Foundation. Mrs. Valdez has also been active with the Model Cities program for over two years. |
