Show aseball Underway in Redwood by Roger Taylor Beginning this month Model Cities Welcomes New Task Force Aide a Junior Baseball league is being established in the Redwood area through the Redwood Service Center. All boys between the ages of 8 13 years are eligible to join. The Redwood area league will consist of three teams who will play other teams from the Central City and Northwest areas. Glen Lu, director of the Redwood Center Recreation Program said it was an excellent opportunity for the boys to learn -- sportsmanship, working together and to gain respect for themselves as well as their teammates. Meetings The Executive Committee of the Central City NORTHWEST COUNCIL MEETS every second Tuesday of each month, directs Redwood Recreational program. Glen James Baker, Public Safety Director The Salt Lake City Department of Public Safety, under the of James Barker is sponsoring the teams and donating equipment and uniforms. The coaching will be done in part by police officers who will work with the boys to direction improve their game, provide organization and generally show that the police officer is a friend and not someone to fear. Glen's Tires, Elwell Laundry, employees of the PDQ Oil Company and Gans Ink Company cf Utah have donated funds for the league. Besides baseball, there are other activities provided for the boys such as horseshoes, parties, trips to Lagoon and picnics. There is no charge to join the teams so if you are interested in playing a little ball this summer, you can contact Glen Lu at the Redwood Service Center, 466-875- 5. Lu Neighborhood Council will meet on the 22nd of May at the at 7:30 p.m. Northwest Multipurpose Center, 1300 W. Second North CENTRAL CITY COUNCIL meets the first and third Mondays of each month, at 7:30 p.m. at Central City Community Center, 615 So. 3rd E. Central City Community Center, Rm. 36 at 7:30 p.m. Please make arrangements to attend! WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT AND HELP in order to get our Council operating properly and to build attendance. WEST SIDE COUNCIL to meet May 25, 7:00 p.m. PEOPLE'S FREEWAY meets every Monday evening, at 7:30 p.m. at Freeway Satellite Center, 568 So. 2nd. West. Board Meeting second Wednesday of each month. Thursday, at the Neighborhood House, 1050 West 5th South.
