Show MT BALDYS special Corr review marysvale Marys vale utah may 10 1899 1809 some twelve or afif fifteen miles west of marysvale Marys vale the bald summits of mt belknap and mt baldy bald pierce the zone of perpetual snow on the western slope of these giant elevations are the sheep rock and indian creek mining districts on the north and almost at the base of mt alt belnap is the gold mountain district on the eastern descent are found the ohio and mt baldy districts otherwise known as marysvale Marys vale this great mineral belt which bends horseshoe like around mt baldy is fully seventy five miles in length and furnishes innumerable veins of gold and silver ores along almost the entire distance there is but one natural obstacle to the rapid development of this locality when those great dykes were formed they cooled in the form of ridges with troughs between thern them naturally the veins are found near the apexes of the ridges or mountain spurs and generally have nearly the same strike it is against all reasons to believe that the veins did not come to the surface bearing their full values buffalo I 1 hump 41 district strict is a good illustration of this truth the mines there are situated near the apex of the ridge and the values are said to bo be covered by a cropping of twenty feet of 11 bull quartz during the age of ice the glaciers moved down the before mentioned troughs plough ing out the rock forming deep canyons but leaving the veins almost untouched having no watershed above them the veins are found today in almost the identical condition as when first formed and man must tear away with dynamite the capping which the glaciers f failed ailed to remove and when this is done the results will silence the croakers who have so persistently decried the merits of the great met belts of the mt baldy region and prove to the world that it is possible for a great district to exist outside of the shadow of moroni and even miles distant from the sacred corporate limits of salt lake city the only two properties in this vicinity upon which there has been performed any quantity of systematic development are the webster mine in the ohio district and the deer trail in mt baldy district in the former property a 1600 foot tunnel on the vein h has disclosed enormous chutes chates of lead silver ore in the deer trail tons of ore carrying an average value of 7 ingold in gold and 10 ounces in silver per ton have been disclosed c the remainder of the so called development work in both districts looks like childs play and as if had been bossed by an erratic kid the prospecting work a as a rule consists of shallow pot holes open cuts cuts an and d tunnels not completed the properties tes now being worked are the deer trail with quite a force webster one shift h f t the ahe star group ode shift the standard group one shift th e glen erie chattanooga has hai a force of eight or tn men 1 the J dalton three or four men the crystal has a small force under the direction of professor marcus E jones who has a geological em ein ton confronting fronting him which abich will tax hie highly trained in intellect to solve and if he fails no other man need hope to succeed nine miles south of marysvale Marys vale the mone del rey mining and milling company oi of salt lake has one shift at work on a group of seven claims on gold cold hill the company company recently put in a whim 1 m which elc excepting epting the little steam engine at the crystal is the only hoisting apparatus in the entire district beg pardon the truth must be told tho the the heavens fall there are probably a half dozen time honored windlasses wind lasses the bearings of which will rust in idleness until some plucky newcomers borrow them of the too willing owners mr editor these are the cold or warm facts regarding this district now for the outlook for the future and the opportunities for men with a little money and energy enough to twist a windlass from grass roots down to the depth of a hundred feet or so the outlook this season is most flattering for horse heaven the wedge mining company will soon resume work on its now patented group the tunnel door on the wedge was lo 10 locked aked last winter on a twenty six inch streak of ore that is fairly plastered with gold the remainder of the ten foot vein carries good milling values then t acre aro are the eagle out of sight aurora and many other fine ledges which will develop into paying properties if tunneling is abandoned and sinking on the veins is adopted except in special cases in nearly all the mines and prospects now being worked there is a good showing from the character of the work now being done in the deer trail it is believed reduction works will be put up this season and if so tho the camp will have received a much needed I 1 impetus m veins carrying the extraordinary values which are now being found in the wedge are are few and far between in any district but prospectors with six months grubstakes grub stakes can find large veins of promising iron stained quartz carrying small surface values in gold and silver in the upper portions of bullion and cottonwood canyons and especially from gold hill west to the crest of the baldy range rang e and in the head of ten mile canyon many of the large ledges south and west of gold hill carry iron sulphide which in this locality is a dead sure promise of pay ore within a hundred feet A B the original locating fiend of this region and his notices of location are barred by the statute of limitations and about acres of fine grazing land containing large ledges of fine looking quartz reverted to the public domain last new years because of lack ack of assessment work we have the ores plenty of water rind ond tiri limber
