Show DON ROBBINS AND HIS COAL LANDS in speaking of don C robbins the vet eran hydrocarbon miner and the suc success ess he be has finally met with in securing financial assistance in the handling of his extensive coal interests in carbon and emery counties this state the daily herald says representatives of an eastern syndicate agreed yesterday to put into the development of coal lands controlled by don C robbins bobbins these are the men who a few days ago as chronicled in che herald offered to purchase the lands and to deposit in cash in a local bank as an evidence of good faith all of the details surrounding the transaction were not released by mr robbins previous to his departure for huntington on the evening train but sufficient data was given by him to show that the deal is one of the most important closed in this state for many a long day by the terms of the agreement reached with the personal re presenta tives of cf a powerful combination of chicago new york and boston wealth the identity of 01 o f whom mr robbins bobbins for the time being refused to disclose it is made apparent that he will soon be classed among the millionaires of the state mr robbins owns between and acres of the finest coal lands in utah they are located at the head of huntington canyon in the corner of carbon and emery counties and south of the mines of the utah fuel company at scofield the syndicate mentioned has just agreed to supply mr robbins with which he will use in developing ve loping and patenting his mines giving a mortgage 11 on the properties to secure the money much of the land comes within the fifteen mile limit of a railroad and will consequently have to be paid for at the rate of 20 per acre while the balance will be secured from the government at 10 per acre seventeen years ago mr robbins began the acquirement of co coal al lands in the section named and no man with a purpose in view ever struggled harder than did he to round out his possessions and keep them intact it was a case of make or break with him from the turn loose and though disaster stared him in the face many a time and while he has gone hungry to save his property he never once thought of surrendering up to date by hook and by crook he has spent something like in the development of the mines which contain all grades of coal 1 from the ordinary soft article used for do bestic purposes to the best grades of conin cokin and anthracite B last spring when he was on his back and isolated with a case of smallpox a petition petetin was filed in the local land office praying that his entries be canceled he was accused oi of not having complied with the law in keeping up his work when he recovered he asked the land office to send representatives to hi bis property and see what had been done two experts went down and made a thorough examination arni nation and reported back that mr robbins had complied with the law in every par ti cular and declared that he had bad done all that was necessary to entitle him to government patent upon the payment of the required price per acre then he sought outside aid two weeks ago experts representing the men who have agreed to help him obtain the patents made an exhaustive examination and then reported favorably on the proposition the result was the deal consummated yesterday mr robbins bobbins left last night for camp to lo look after matters on that end of the line from now on he intends to make things hum at the mines and it is now predicted that within another year or two he will be known among the big coal operators of the west |
