Show 0 RIGS FOR EMERY CO OIL FIELD salt lake herald republican activity in the watauga oil field to the southeast of emery in emery county is showing considerable increase one rig is now operating in the field and it is understood that within the next sixty or ninety days at least four others will be installed there for several months past a number of engineers have been surveying and locating ground until now upwards of acres of oil lands have been taken up it has been known for a number of years that oil existed in the country to the south of castle dale beyond the cedar mountains in 1904 considerable excitement was started and several companies were organized with the purpose of developing the field two wells were sunk in what is known as the sinbad country on account of the lack of capital these companies allowed their claims to lapse since then engineers have decided that the best oil prospects exist east of the former locations for that reason a number of companies early in the spring located property along what is known as the salt and dry washes and to the east of muddy creek rig in the field welch co of vancouver B C with A C dennis as the field engineer were the first in the field and located a number of claims at a point on dry wash where it was believed the oil sands were the most easily accessible this company now has a rig in the field which it is operating to bring this rig into the field it was necessary to build several miles of wagon road from emery and then take the machinery in by way of price and emery a distance of over miles george kimball an engineer and oil expert representing mackenzie mann well known in the california oil fields has been in the district for a number of months making examinations and locations for the company he has ordered a rig and machinery from denver and it is understood this will arrive at price within a short time and be transported to the field james S sweeney a san francisco attorney is also in the district in the interests of san francisco people he has acquired valuable ground and will start developments at once arrangements have been made to secure a well drilling outfit in california which will be shipped in within the next month L ocal local interests capitalists from ontario cal have sent george ross a well known oil man into the field in their interests after an examination of conditions he has decided to put in a well drilling outfit this will also be secured from california and preparations have been made to install the drill as soon as it arrives C A sarber and charles D as the utah drilling company have taken over acres of land in the district they are also preparing to begin work on the ground they have secured an outfit in california and expect to have it on the ground within the next thirty days one of the drawbacks to the field is the water supply muddy creek at the point where it touches the field is so impregnated with alkali that it is impossible to use it for culinary purposes all the water is hauled from emery which is about forty miles away it will be necessary to put in condensers before the water from the creeks and springs can be used in the engines two oil sands according to the engineers who have examined the district there are two known oil sands which dip in a northeasterly direction in salt wash it is estimated that the first oil sand which is feet thick will be encountered at a depth of 1000 feet something like feet below the first sand is a second sand with a thickness of feet A little town has grown up in the oil field and it already boasts of having ten tents and this will be increased considerably as soon as the dr illers and stationary engineer sare necessary to prosecute the development work |
