Show THE PICNIC AT TINTIC J ever since the discovery of district in the year 1869 this richly mineralized section has been productive of many millions in the precious metals and while the growth of this great camp has been slow the fact still remains that today it is one of the greatest districts in the west with an activity and progression gres sion at the present time which justly places it among the leading mining sections of this intermountain region and as extensive work progresses in the systematic and intelligent exploration of its numerous numerous mines and prospects mining men of experience are beginning to realize that as yet the true merit and value of that section has not been demonstrated to any great extent although tintic gintic mines for years ears past have been noted as big dividend payers and great wealth producers it is the silver city end of tintic gintic district that i is s accredited with the honor of having farst attracted the attention of mining men and prospectors pec tors the mines of mammoth and eureka being being of more recent discovery and while the latter camps f ajr r a time g gained a i n e d precedence over silver city and diamond it is but fair to state that now the porphyry belt is strictly in the swim once once again and that this locality is now a perfect beehive of industry with vigorous work and development going on on every hand while the country in the immediate vicinity of silver city and south as far as diamond is thickly strewn with new hoisting works no less than thirty five plants being in operation within the section named thirteen of which can be seen and counted from the depot at silver city while several hoists are located almost in the heart of the town and almost w wi it lana thina stones throw of each other and at thee th e same same time the work of hoist installation goes on apace as property after property prospect after prospect is gathered in by new mining companies who propose to prove the mineral worth of that section by extensive exploration and development the indications being that it will not be long now before several new producers and dividend payers will be added to the long string of bonanza propositions to which the silver city end of tintic gintic district can now lay claim centerino centering around the old swansea which has paid in dividends since its resurrection a few years ago there are a number of mines and prospects to which public inter est has been extensively drawn of late the south swansea the legitimate offspring of the old swansea although but an infant in point of age has already disbursed nearly among among its fortunate stockholders while active work is being pu pushed in the resurrection ur of the old park mine now known as the silver park which in the early days of silver city was one of the most prolific of the porphyry belt producers the four aces has also received considerable attention dur inythe past few years with almost every indication di that with more extended development men t and with greater depth large bodies of pay ore will be uncovered within its environments the mine at the present time sending in about ten carloads of good ore monthly even though the management is bending all its time and energy in prospecting work and in the endeavor to gain depth on the vein operations being greatly facilitated by the fine steam hoist which was erected on the ground several months ago in this little nest of favored mines mined there is still another prospect another property which although having yet to find its ore body is considered as being one of the coming in mines of the camp on account of its favorable location as well as for the fact that it is in the hands of men of means who are doing everything possible oos men carrying with it two parallel veins the four aces and the south swansea and also the cross vein of the silver park which comes in from the east the impression prevailing that at the juncture of the silver park vein with that of the south swansea a mammoth deposit of high grade ore will be uncovered uninterrupted and extensive work in the development of the picnic ground was begun inthe in the year 1895 and soon afterwards boston CONTINUED ON PAGE EIGHT i THE PICNIC AT TINTIC CONTINUED FROM PAGE FIVE men of means and experience became interested in the enterprise fully confident that in such a locality and with such surroundings it would be but a question of time and exploration before the prospect would and could be listed as a paying mine permanent workings were begun on the extension of the four aces vein and at a point only eighty one feet south of the four aces endline the shaft of the four aces and the incline shaft of the picnic being but feet apart the two workings for safety and air being connected on the of the picnic by means of a drift driven on the vein in which several fine bodies of high grade galena ore have been blocked out while the picnic incline has been sunk to the foot level the main work in the exploitation of the mine has been to the south on the on this level a drift has been driven on a strong vein in which there are occasional stringers and bunches of rich silver lead ore for a distance of feet from this point a drift is being run on the ledge to the southwest this drift is now in feet and it is elpe expected acted daily that its juncture with the south swansea vein will be effected and this belief is seemingly well founded unless the two veins should suddenly and unexpectedly change their strike or dip the chances for opening up a body of good ore at the connection being considered good if not almost certain on the GOO at the point where the main drift was turned to the southwest in order to follow the vein to its supposed connection with the south swansea ledge a crosscut cross cut was started to encounter the extension of the silver park vein this is designated as the southeast crosscut cross cut and is now in a distance of feet having in been driven the entire distance in granite which is the country rock of that locality the face of the crosscut cross cut a few days ago when a representative senta tive of THE REVIEW visited the property presented a decided change with lime displacing the country rock while the seams were highly copper stained the management stating that no one would be at all surprised at any shift to learn that the desired connection had been made when if ore were not encountered as anticipated the vein could be followed to its junction with the south swansea lode the faith of the original owners of this ground being pinned to the universal supposition that at this point one of the big mines of that portion of the district would be opened the company is now working a force of 7 who has unbounded faith and confidence aff to the ultimate successful outcome of the enterprise the mine equipment embraces one of the most convenient little hoisting plants in the district the machinery of which consists of a thirty five horsepower horse power friction engine and a forty horsepower horse power boiler in addition to which there is a self dumping skipp and a water skipp the incline shaft is well timbered while excellent ventilation is secured by means of a ten inch pipe which finds its exit through the four aces shaft every care being taken by the company of which gill S peyton is president E H buchanan is vice president and treasurer and W H secretary to provide every convenience and safeguard required in the systematic and thorough development of its property in the development of the picnic several consignments consign ments of good ore have been made to the salt lake market and THE REVIEW is informed by mr ford that at an early date extraction will begin on the 20 inch seam of galena now showing on the level A large portion of the picnic group is covered by the town of silver city the silver parks new stean steam hoist now in course of construction is almost within throwing distance from the picnic plant while at the cleopatra adjoining the picnic on the south a large hoisting plant has just been installed and the shaft is to be pushed down on the vein which was uncovered in this property a year or two ago which by many is believed to be an extension of either the swansea or park ledges at the south swansea the foundations are being put in for the new steam hoist which will be installed several hundred feet south of the present works and but a short distance from the picnic endline this enterprise on the part pam of the south swansea company being considered by many as conclusive evidence that its ore body runs south a considerable distance if not indeed into the picnic holdings As it is but little more time will be required to prove or disprove the theory advanced as to the merit and worth of the picnic s holdings and unless dame nature was freaky when she hid her mineral wealth in that section there is good reason to believe that the extensions of the south swansea and silver park ore bodies will eventually be uncovered within the environments of the picnic group |
