Show THUNDER MOUNTAIN NEWS capital news boise idaho C W neff J A cubbin and W H padgett arrived last night from thunder mountain last night footsore foot sore and weary and were given a hearty welcome at the overland by those who are eager for every scrap of fresh news new s from that district all the evening they were surrounded by miners who plied them with questions concerning the conditions of affairs in the district and the trip which was an unusually hard one owing to the great depth of snow the two former went in for boise capitalists ita lists and declined to say anything for publication until after they report to their people which will probably be tomorrow they showed by their actions and the pleased expression they wore that they are sanguine as to the future of the district which only waits to be developed to rival the famous cripple creek district mr padgett however talked freely with the capital news 1 I anything startling to relate he said in response to a query everything up there is going on smoothly there are about people in the district at present and all are working it is expected that colonel dewey and the sunnyside people will each put up a 50 stamp mill as soon as they can get the machinery in which I 1 understand is already at emmett awaiting favorable weather for shipment the latter company recently made a rich lode strike of eight feet the dewey tunnel is now in about feet with a number of cross cuts and all show good ore the fairview people are at work on their new tunnel in which the main work will be done and is now in about feet development work on the james jewell company property this winter has shown good ore on the gold king property and others some good showings have been made we brought several pounds of ore out with us which we ahre are going to have sampled all together ti tunnels innels have been opened up this winter and all of them showed good values in from fifteen to feet we have had no trouble this winter and the health of the camp has been good the blacksmith at the dewey mine I 1 have forgotten his name died a short time ago but that was from heart failure our provisions are holding out well although bacon is getting short we have about two and one half feet of snow at and the weather has averaged about eight degrees below zero although it got down to 32 at one time the capital news comes regularly and is anxiously awaited they are read and reread re read until they are literally worn out it is a great favorite as it gives us the general news and that of boise the trio left roosevelt sunday february 22 and made the trip on snowshoes to peace valley a distance of seventy four miles reaching the latter place on thursday while they were five days making the sev enty four miles the actual time in traveling was twenty nine hours the snow was from five to twelve feet the deepest it has been is twenty years at peace valley they discarded their snowshoes and continued their journey to garden valley a distance of twenty six miles where they took the stage headed for boise |
