finds and e even v e in boise m me e tro polis polls the splendid claims made for the thunder mountain discoveries failed to cause any excitement during the early part of the season and it was not until outsiders began beann to investigate into the possible value of the bonanzas of this mineral section that home people began to have coir some conception of the wonderful opportunities offered there and by the time the incipient rush to this locality had set in the advent of winter vir dually prohibited further investigation but enough was then known to satisfy the most conservative that another Mil mineral leral wonder had been found and since then extensive preparations have been made to enfer the promised land as early during a th tha present season as possible 00 As thase e who could do so have gone into section 0 ivr W and already at beast two t hou 9 ft T locations have been made and all of these as near to the dewey mine and mill as aa possible the dewey being the in price while accommodations are lacking however within a month or six weeks preparations will have been made to care for the thousands now making arrangements to visit this region which is now from all accounts virtually snowbound snow bound but little real prospecting work has been done outside of the dewey mine and no thorough work in this line can be done until late in the spring or early in the summer it is true that a number of important strikes have been recorded in the district since the rush to this locality began last fall while quite a number of transfers have been made in 11 of expert geologists however alj the thunder 1 mountain region is exceptionally rich ih in its mineral I 1 deposits and in the immensity of its ore bearing ledges and veins thunder mountain itself being one vast deposit of gold bearing ore so extensive and far reach ing that the extent of its wealth is incalculable the mineralized area not being confined to thunder Mountain alone b ufa extending r nearly every new new mining camp it will take some ome time yet and a large amount of systematic development to determine just what is the formation carrying the large deposits of high grade and milling ore similar to those already exposed in the dewey mine the mammoth droppings crop pings of which according to one authority presenting a body of gold bearing rock that has been ti traced aced base metals S several everal e eminent experts have made an examination of thunder mountain and all agree to a certain extent as to its formation one authority stating that it is almost identical with that of cripple creek colorado in that it ib consists of a rhyolite zone intersected by intrusions the greatest va values luebe being encountered at the contact of the dyke with the overlying volcanic thunder mountain having inspected this new eldorado on snowshoes mr benner is well pleased with what he saw of the mineral possibilities ties of this new eldorado mr benner states that at least two thousand claims have been staked out in the district and he says that the claims have all been well staked big posts from sixteen to eighteen feet in length having been sunk down through h the snow and into the ground aground at the discovery points and corners corn rs mr benner is now in stanley basin idaho e examining Ka mining mining property Y statesman boise idaho another sale of thunder mountain mining claims was closed up yesterday the consideration was not a promise to pay but the clean cash was paid over bert day william graham and A L tuttle who are the foremen and amalgams amal gama tors at the dewey mine were successful in locating a choice group of claims last year they were designated as the philadelphia nos 2 3 and 4 this group of claims is situated between divide creek and lava creek east of monumental creek these claims were among the earliest locations of last year and adjoin the boston group and are in in close proximity to the rainbow claims the owners of these claims sold them and completed the transfer yesterday to the thunder mountain consolidated gold mining company limited for the cash price of boise statesman D F call one of the party that arrived from thunder mountain on last evening brings the interesting news that an important discovery has been made in the dewey mine he does not know what the particulars of the strike are but he had it from good authority that a body of very high grade material had been opened shortly before he left the assays essays ran so high that the management thought there must be some mistake but a second series af samples went higher than the first it is not thought that this is the rich shoot showing on the the surface but an entirely new discovery fred mitchell the well known utah miner who was sent into thunder mountain by Aless rs stewart fc and keifer of this city is according to all accounts the ali first st man to get into this new eldorado this spring in a letter written by him to his associates dated march mr mitchell says 1 I arrived here today after a very hard trip I 1 got here with pounds of grub but it is worth a dollar a pound I 1 packed it forty miles on my back and doubled the trail with fifty pounds at each trip the snow is five feet deep here but all the gound g is located around the dewey property I 1 will get some two miles from the mill I 1 will commence locating in them the morning all of the men in the mine and the mill quit work to locate so the mill has been shutdown shut down the country is all porphyry y and volcanic ash mhd veins are blanket and from three to seven zones the ore is all free and some of it runs from 70 to to the pan four men panned out in four days there are seams of charcoal in the veins which run well in gold the ten stamp mill runs on 6 oie there are good prospects in three different mountains thunder lightning and rainbow and lots of rich placer ground with porphyry bedrock that runs from to 25 to the yard I 1 was the first one in over the salmon trail |
