Show A gratifying INCREASE according to statistics furnished by w wells n fargo fargon co the production of gold I 1 silver si s i lead and copper by utah mines for the 1901 amounted to the handsome year sum of 19 as against against an output of 7 1 17 7 4 for t the be previous year thus sh increased production of 05 91 the 1 1 all s gain not being as great as was anticipated in rain ing circles a year ago very largely ow owing ing t to the fact that se veral several of our leading mines h curtailed their output on account of litiza liti tion or because of the intention in one or two instances to cease heavy production bendin the erection of mills and reduction works it is fair to presume however that the entire output for the year 1901 was not included in the statistics furnished as there are many close corporations which decline to make public the output of their mines or which ship their ore product to outside points for sale or treatment so that in the aggregate the entire production of utah mines for the period mentioned would be much larger than the figures given above it is a pleasure to be able to state however that while the increased output has not been as large as hoped for and expected that in dividend payments our mines have made a record that we may all feel proud of as the increase in in percent percentage aoe 11 of dividend payments over that afore of ore production is very marked and noticeable showing plainly that the profits considering the tonnage 11 made have been much larger 1 which speaks well for the mining industry of the state as this feature of the report for the year shows greater economy omy in mining t operations better management and that mining is now one of the safest a as well as one of the most legitimate occupations that one can follow as can plainly be seen by making a comparison of the dividend payments made in 1901 as against disbursements bur of a similar nature made during the previous year for instance the dividend record for 1901 shows a total payment of forthe for the twelve months of 1900 our mines paid out oui 21 2 in dividends thus showing a net gain for 1901 of or nearly ii a two million increase the increase being greater than the gain gains s made in in ore production during t thelast the past year and the total would be even greater were the profits of close corporations and individual operators added to the list As it is the record made by our mines in the way of production and d dividend payments payment 3 for the year 1901 is extremely gratifying and is an index of what may be expected from utah mining camps for 1902 everything going to show that many new nev producers and dividend payers will be added during the present year to our already splendid list As a matter of fact utah as the youngest mining state in the union has made a record that has not been equaled or surpassed in this intermountain region as it now ranks as fita fifth among the older mining sections of the welt aves in the value of its mineral production |
