Show BRANCH TO DEEP CREEK the southern pacific has under serious consideration the construction of a branch to deep creek this information says the daily herald comes from an authoritative source the prospects are said to he be excellent for the construction of this branch within the not distant future E H harriman has announced his intention to visit the state before long and this is one of the subjects it is expected that will receive his personal attention I 1 the southern pacific long ago investigated the conditions at deep creek and the huntington regime planned to build a branch into this rich mineral district this branch was to start from a point in nevada and go south the consummation of the project was delayed until finally C P huntington s death caused its temporary abandonment since mr harriman and his associates assumed control of the southern pacific the question of building a deep creek branch has come up again th the e officials of the southern pacific have passed favorably upon it all and d now the entire matter is in the hands of mr ir harriman the present plan is to make the deep creek branch an adjunct of the cutoff cut off around the southern end of salt lake into salt lake city the survey for this cutoff cut off passes within seventy miles of iba ibapah ah the fico and principal town of the region mucho juch of the rich mineral territory is considerably of this seventy seven y nearer the greater part miles is across a flat alkali desert over which railway construction would be easy A feasible route is said to have after the hilly country is reached while it is not expected that the branch will carry a heavy traffic at first the expectation is that it will in time become one of the best paying pieces of road in the system railroads have hitherto been kept from building 11 into deep creek because of the lono longstretch of expensive road necessary to reach there and because no big shipping mines have been developed to furnish heavy traffic at t the start the mines have been waiting for the railroad and the railroads have been waiting for the mines the result has been that neither has gone ahead if present plans are carried out this branch can be constructed at comparatively little expense and this wonderfully rich mineral country given a chance for dev development elop |
