Show THE WIRE TRAMWAY it is something wonderful as well as extremely interesting to note the manner in which machinery is replacing the old time methods of operation in the leading mining camps of this western country compressed air and machine drills have largely taken the place of hand drilling and improvements in milling methods have enabled the mine owner to treat ores which heretofore were practically valueless in many other ways improved machinery and appliances have greatly simplified the growing business of mining one of the greatest improvements and conveniences in this line evolved from the brainos brain of genius being the tramway and especially the rope tram which stretches over canyons and along the mountain side overcoming obstacles and all conditions of the weather in a way that is truly marvelous while its employment in the transportation of ores and freight greatly cheapens and facilitates mining operations to corroborate this statement one has but to visit the tramway plants now in operation in the camps of the west a splendid demonstration of the otilit utility y and success of this system being illustrated in we the workings of the highland boy tramway at Bing bingham T bam this plant which is two and a half miles in length reaching from the depot in bingham canyon to then company companas comp anys s mines near the head of carr fork gulch is working like clockwork clock work and in a most satisfactory manner instead of the lono long wagon haul over roads tb that at are almost impassable in the wintertime winter time 1 the ore from the mine is now sent to the railroad over the rope tramway and it is most interesting to view the plant in its tireless and unceasing operation at the mine min the buckets holding from to pounds each are run from the false switch onto the wire a simple turn of an automatic lock fastens fasten the car to the propelling wire the wheels take the guide wire which sustains the weight of the miniature shipment and the cargo starts out on its destination making the distance to the receiving station in from forty to forty five minutes here automatically the car takes the false switch again a stalwart stalwart employed of the company takes tak esit it in hand and follows it around to the bins when by a simple turn at the hands of the operator it is relieved of its contents and sent on its return to the mine in an incredibly short period the buckets finding their way to the wire at a distance of every hundred feet and so regular 11 is the system employed that the line is is one constant procession of buckets going and coming the performance for mance of the tram always being watched with deep interest by those within its scope indeed the sight impresses one greatly and one stops to gaze upon the operation of this just as he would pause to look upon the swift paggi passage age of a railroad train the impulse to doso boso is ir and there is a fascination in witnessing the movements of the cars as they move along so steadily I 1 now sivi swinging nging clear against the horizon now low over shard obstructions caused by the contour of the mountains moun tins or now launched out on long stretches spanning the canyon the whole presenting a panorama that is constantly paying tribute to tb the e inventive genius who gave birth to the idea and to the man who took up the thought and subjected it to the use of man surely the world is moving is growing and perfection in mechanism is rapidly being attained |
