Brown; on motion of defendant's counsel stay of proceedings in tho case was granted till the motion for a rehearing could be argued and determined. deter-mined. The people, etc., m. Charles Carr, indicted for larceny; the prisoner having pleaded guilty, the court pronounced pro-nounced sentence upon him, the judgment being that Carr be confined at hard labor in the penitentiary in this county for the period of one year. The people, etc., m. Charles Bune-man, Bune-man, indicted for seduction; the defendant de-fendant was arraigned and pleaded "not guilty." Samuel L. Tibbals vs. Wm. H. Anderson ; judgment was entered against defendant by default; referred to the clerk to compute the amount due. The people, etc., vs. N. V. Jones, indicted for assault with intent to do bodily injury, the alleged odense having hav-ing been committed upon B. F. Whittemore, at the polls at theAug- Carey and J. R. McBride for the prosecution, Sutherland and Snow for the defense; trial by jury. A large number of witnesses testified, the evidence being a rehearsal of the facts of the boisterous proceedings at the election referred to, when Mr. Whittemore was hurt, and which proceedings are still so vivid in the memory of the community at large. Pending the examination of witnesses wit-nesses for the defense, court was adjourned ad-journed till Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. |
