Show Second District Court. I (cipocial dbpatob to tho IltRiL. .) Beaver, 19, 10.30 p.m. The trial of the case of the United Stales rs, John E. Lloyd, for illegal voting last August for delegate to congress, was concluded to-day. The impanneling of the jury commenced last Tuesday. The case was given to the jury at 3 p.m., and after an absence of forty minutes they returned a verdict of "not guilty." The court and prosecution prose-cution were disappointed at the verdict, ver-dict, and hesitate to take up any case for receiving illegal votes at said election. elec-tion. They also hesitate to call up Fotheringham, indicted for polygamy poly-gamy committed in Salt Lake city nineteen years ago. The result of the Lloyd case, today, to-day, meets with general satisfaction among "Gentiles" and "Mormons." There was considerable sharp-shooting between Bishop aud the prosecution prosecu-tion this afternoon in consequence of the repeated excuse of the poverty of the court to proceed further this term with criminal cases, a majority of which are against "Mormons." A jury is impanneled to try the case of the people vs. Eugene Bacon, for stealing bullion from the Salt Lake stage. Bishop is engaged to assist the prosecution to-morrow on this case. |
