He moved to lay the petition on the table and have it printed. The motion to print was finally referral to the Committee on printing. Stewart spoke against the inflation of the currency, and favored free banking on a yold basis. Further consideration of the resolution report-1 report-1 ed by the Finance Committee wai then postponed to Tuesday next. Wright, from the Finance Committee, Com-mittee, reported favorably the House bill to abolish the office of Deputy Commissioner of Internal Revenue; placed on the calendar. Wright introduced a bill to province cheap transportation by way of the great lakes of the northwest; referred. It provides for the incorporation of h company to construct a I ship canal around Niagara Falls, the U. S. Government Gov-ernment to endorse tho construction bonds to the extent of SO per .cent, of tho cost of the undertaking, and to reserve the right to regulate its tolls. Sherman, from the Finance Com mittee, reported with an amendment, the House bill authorizing coinage to be extended at mitts of the United States for foreign countries, the bill giving the Secretary of War control. con-trol. The resolution of the Finance Committee Com-mittee came up in its regular order. Stewart spoke of the evils of a depreciated depre-ciated currency, and advocated free banking on a gold basis. The issue of any more currency, he contended, would be an evil, no matter how much should be issued. Men would get indebt at once and another crash would follow. Let a step be taken toward specie payment in time of peace and piosperity. Congress ought not to encourage any speculation specula-tion by dealing out more money. Wright wanted to take up the bill to abolish the ollice of Deputy Commissioner Com-missioner of Internal Revenue, but Logan objected. Tho discussion discus-sion continued until 2 o'clock, when, by previous arrangement, the Houso proceeded to the consideration of the. business pertaining to tho District of Columbia. The only .business reported was a bill in reference to tho education educa-tion of the blind in the District, and that, after discussion, was referred to the Committee of the Whole.
