Show CONGRESSIONAL. SENATE. Washington, 15. Morrell, of Maine, introduced a bill to amend the patent and copyright laws. Alcorn introduced a bill authorizing the secretary of war to 'compromise all pending claims of government against Southern railroad companies. Sherman, from tho committee com-mittee on finance, reported a bill to require the national banks to restore their capital, when impaired, by assessments asses-sments on stockholders within three months after notice by the comptroller of currency, and providing for a penalty af $60 I?) against private cankers using the word "national." The calendar was then taken up and the following bills passed. To confirm the title of L. Gregson to land at Green Bay, Wis.; and to provide a building for the custom house and postoffice at ; Memphis, Tenn. The senate then adjourned. ad-journed. HOl'SK. The post office appropriation bill was reported and made the Epecial order. It appropriates thirty-two millions and a half, of which six and three-quarter millions comes from the treasury and the balance from revenues. Tho bill passed relieving from the operations of the bankruptcy act thu state insurance companies against which : bankruptcy proceeding are taken in the . state courts. Oa motion of Farnswortb, a resolu tion was adopted that the select committee com-mittee on the credit mobilier should enquire if fee' are paid congressmen as counselors, or whether money was paid or solicited from the Union Pacific or the mobilier to assist in the election of congressmen. The legislative appropriation appropria-tion bill then came up, and amendments were voted upon. The amendment repealing the ninth section of the army appropriation bill of 1671, relative to the interest on tbe Pacific railroad bonds, was adopted. The House then took up the bill reported report-ed by Parker, of Missouri, from the committee on Territories, for the better protection of the Indian tribes and their consolidation under a civil government, to be called tbe Territory of Oklahoma. After speeches by Parker and Conner, in favor of the bill, the House, without action, adjourned. |
