Show TUK STATE LiX.SMTIKE. Article XVII of the cvmsutution of Deteret, framed by the late constitutional constitu-tional convention, contains the following follow-ing provisions : Sec. 5. For the purpose of taking the vote of the electors of this Territory, Terri-tory, for the ratification or rejection of this constitution, and for the election ol' members of the legislature, and a representative in congress, an election shall be held in the several counties of the Territory, on the third Monday in March, A. D. eighteen hundred and seventy-two, and the election shall be conducted and the returns thereof made as nearly as practicable in conformity con-formity with the existing laws of the Territory, in relation to the holding of the general election, except that iD voting for members of the house of representatives, the electors may cast their ballots in accordance with section twenty-five, of article IV of the constitution. con-stitution. Sec. 7. The county clerks of their respective counties shall issue to the members of the Siate legislature, certificates cer-tificates of their election, and said clerk shall forthwith make duplicate returns of the votes cast for and against the constitution, and the votes cast for representative rep-resentative io congress, and transmit the same by the most safe and expedi-itious expedi-itious conveyance, to R. L. Campbell, the secretary of this convention, inclosed in-closed in an envelope, marked "election returns." Sec. 9. Until otherwise provided by law the apportionment of senators and representatives in the ditferent counties coun-ties shall be as follows: Salt Like, Tooele and Summit counties four senators, sena-tors, Silt Lake county six representatives, representa-tives, Tooele county one representative, Summit county one representative; Davis and Morgan counties one senator and two representatives; liox lUder and Weber counties one senator, Box Elder county enc representative, Weber We-ber county two representatives; Cache and Rich counties one senator and two representatives; Utah and Wasatch counties two senators, Utah county three representatives, Wasatch county ono renrfuetitnfive- .Tinli nnd MillarH counties one senator, Juab county one representative, Millard county one representative; rep-resentative; Beaver and Iron counties one senator, Beaver county one representative, repre-sentative, Iron county one representative; representa-tive; Kane aud Waging ton counties ono senator and one representative; Sanpete and Sevier counties one senator sena-tor and two representatives. Sec. 10. If this constitution be ratified rati-fied by the people, the President of this convention, or, in case of his inability, the secretary of this convention, shall convene the legislature at the city hall in Salt Lake city, on the first Thursday of April, 1S72, for the purpose of electing elect-ing United States Senators. In accordance with the above, the election was duly held on the 18th ult., and returns were forwarded to Mr. Campbell, secretary of the convention. The constitution having been ratified by the people, General Barnuui issued the following, uuder date as below: To all whom it may concern: By virtue of the authority in me vested as president of the convention, which framed and adopted the constitution consti-tution of the proposed State of Des-crct, Des-crct, and in pursuance of section 10, article 17, of said constitution, requiring requir-ing me, in case of the ratification thereof by the people, "to convene the legislature at the city hall, in Salt Lake city, on the lirt Thursday of April, 1S72, for the purpose of electing United Uni-ted States senators," I do hereby convene con-vene the members of tho legislature elected under said constitution, at the place above indicated, on Thursday the -Ith day of April next, at 12 o'clock, m Dated this 30th day of March, A. D. 1S72, at Salt Lake city, Utah. K. M. Baknum, President of ihe Convention. To-day is the first Thursdayin April, and the legislature is required to meet at 12 o'clock, noon, in the city hall, in this city.
