Show B.ESOLUTIONS OF B.E8PECT. Yc-ior-day morning the members of the Lar and the Federal Judiciary met in the Court Boom, Faust's Hall. , to pass upon resolution? drawn up I v a comnn'tce appointed fir thai p' , . ' at a previous meeting, held on Mou Ly morning, of which Hon. ('. M. Haw-Icy Haw-Icy was Chairman and Hon. A ernon H. Vaughan Secretary. The following follow-ing are the resolutions. "Whereas, On the 31st day of October, Octo-ber, 170. ol Salt I.ako City, Utah Territory. Ter-ritory. His Excellency, the Into J. Wilson ShatTer, Governor of Utah Territory, Ter-ritory, departed thii life: and W'liEr.iis, The -Members of tho Unr and Officers of tho Court entertain a profound sense of tho loss, which, in common with the people of the Territory Terri-tory and tho Nation they have thereby sutained ; and WnsstA, in all tho walks of life, as a gallant soldier in the lato robo lion on the batilo-held and in the camp; in civil lifo as a member of the bar; and for tho past eight months, in the high and responsible position of Chief Executive of the Territory, our departed depar-ted brother "was distinguished (or his modest deportment, urbanity, integrity, tirm and unyielding suppoit, no less of the Constitution and laws, than of tho private rights of American citizens ; and in tho ability with which he ever discharged dis-charged his high duties, civil and military, mili-tary, commanded tho confidence and admiration of all. Besolved, That in his death the natior. and the Territory have lost an upright, honorable, faithful officer, whose clear judgment, stern integrity, and high conviction con-viction of duty redounded so much to the honor of his beloved country, and testified the character of the man. Resolved, That as a soldier, he was without fear and without reproach; as a citizen, of pure and unsullied character; charac-ter; as an officer, firm, upright, wise and devoted to duty, and as a brother and friend, warm, atfectionato and true. Resolved, That as a testimony of the high respect they bear for the memory of their deceased friend and brother, the members of the Bench and Bar, and the Federal officers of the Territory will wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days. Resolved, That the Chairman and Secretary Sec-retary of the meeting transmit to the family of the deceased a copy of these proceedings, communicating at the same time the deep and sincere sympathy felt by its members in the unspeakable affliction af-fliction with which they have been visited vis-ited by an all-wise and merciful Providence. Provi-dence. Resolved, That these proceedings be presented to the Supreme Court of this Territory, with the request that they be entered on the minutes of tho Court. Chas. H. The reading of the resolutions was followed by eloquent remarks expressive expres-sive of their feelings and eulogistic of the deceased, by Hons. J. B. McKean, Vernon H. Vaughan, C. M. Hawley, ley, and Messrs. Hempstead, Marshall, Mar-shall, Maxwell and Baskin. |
