time of another whose duties and obligations in life can be known only to that other yet through a series of striking and apt illustrations illustra-tions she described a wise and judicious ju-dicious use of time for women whose duties in life were quite different being be-ing made so by a difference in financial circumstances social position and by a differepce of choice in the manner of spending ones life The talk was made especially helpful by the spirit that perVaded i a spirit that impressed im-pressed one with the belief that the modern woman takes a deep interest in all knowledge which enables her to become a more useful member of society so-ciety and particularly in all that touches the nearer relations of lfe home husband children and friends she is reaching out in every direction to bring to her service the new intelli gence which is now occupying a large space in current thought and literature The relation between a mother and her children for instance is being studied hosts who gave the celebrated Bachelors ball destined to be long remembered re-membered as a notable event in Ogden society The affair was given Tuesday night in the Broom hotel and society is still talking of the artistic decorations tions the clever devices for the convenience con-venience and comfort of guests and the great success of the hosts in giving an affair recherche in its every aspect DECORATIONS The decorations bordered on the magnificent mag-nificent No pains or expense were spared The ballroom and annroaches were transformed into apartments almost al-most nalatial The color scheme was I purple and yellow suggesting celibacy and age and in a score of ingenious ways the scheme was worked out Three incandescent lights in panels on the ceiling and a sunray effect was produced by innuemable bands of silk converging to the center and over which the brilliant light shimmered in splendor almost dazzling The orchestra orches-tra was stationed on a raised dais at the west A railing was constructed about the dais and ths whole artistically artistical-ly draped with streamers of purple and I yellow silk while a row of lights were placed so as to bring out a beautiful footlight effect Just back of the orchestra or-chestra was a frame draped with silk incandescent in which were set fifty globes forming a letter B Rich tapestries tapes-tries completed the decorations of the west end The sides of the room were draped with lace curtains and twenty five line etchings were placed along the walls the south wall having also a large mirror suitably draped On the east end was the greatest triumpn of the decorators art Here were hung two large etchings and two magnificent silk curtains one each on either side of curtan the middle space In front of the middle I space was a little table of handsomely carved wood with some rare china dishes containing cut flowers confections confec-tions salted almonds Just behind this hung low was a rich oil painting y bile just above the painting was a large mirror draped with the curtains and in which was reflected the entire ball room pageant One standing before it seemed looking through a casement at the scene of rare beauty The hallway extending along the south side of the ballroom va curtained curtain-ed off just east of the ballroom entrance en-trance by rope portieres thus forming form-ing a room which was utilized as awaiting a-waiting room between dances The electric globes in this apartment were trebled till the place fairly throbbed with light but the rays fell through tinted globes till the air seemed to pulsate pul-sate with yellow and purple color waves Pineapple sherbert and champagne cham-pagne punch were served and attendants attend-ants were present everywhere to do the slightest bidding of guests A colonnade col-onnade was especially constructed from the street to the hotel entrance and every guest was a guest from the moment mo-ment of leaving home till the return as carriages conveyed each one to and from the ball Christensens orchestra from Salt Lake furnished the music and the scene as the dancers the ladies with eXQuisite toilets and the gentlemen in regulation evening costume whirled r about in the mazy dance or oromenad ed amid the brilliant lights was one long to be remembered There were six extra numbers en the programme and each of these was named for some one of the single six who had also given a ball the previous evening At 1230 the carriages took the guests to the Reed where a banquet of ten courses was served Merriment was the order and several impromptu toasts were given At about 230 the carriages were again ordered and the bachelors ball wasover In reply to the invitations sent out but one regret was received ana tats I from a
