Movers Salt Lakers in the White City Several Pleasant Gatherings Gath-erings General Xotcs The gayties of the fall season have not yet begun Several small luncheons were given this week and few lake parties but strictly social functions are conspicuous ior their absence That the question of bow to provide for the poor of the city is engrossing attention just now is proven cy the several plans for charitable movements move-ments on the tapis No city has brighter nobler or more beautiful women than ours There is prima facie evidence of their beauty No sane man would contest that point There can be no question as to their cleverness They are accomplished They unite the refinement of their eastern sisters sis-ters with the strength and self reliance absorbed from the very atmosphere of the west That they are truly noble is shown by the fact that society columns are dull reading at present The butterfly has become the working or at least the saving sav-ing bee Wives and daughters are proving prov-ing that instead of living for society it is a small factor in their lives after all In these times of financial depression they are bravely and cheerfully renouncing sacial functions or making them very simple affairs But they are not assuming the airs of martyrs They even wax irate on the subject of ijoldbugs at times Indeed In-deed they are quite human enough to becharming be-charming Creatures not too bright and good for human natures daily food The Young Ladies Aid society is making ° mak-ing extensive preparations for a series of entertainments to be given at Saltair the latter part of this week On Thursday evening a charity ball will be given Attractive programmes are being be-ing prepared for Friday and Saturday evenings and a Saturday matinee for children chil-dren The committee on arrangements is made up of young ladies who have before proven themselves to be most efficient in that line Misses Kate Lawrence Emma McCor nick and Hempstead Several booths will be made attractive by the charming young ladies who preside aver themMiss MarieLouiseAnderson and assistants will preside over the chafing dish booth Miss Luacine loge and Miss Alff will have charge of the candy booth Miss Harkness of the hot and cold drink booth Mrs Margaret Zane Witcher of the ice cream and cake booth Misses Grace Young and Emily Katz will dispell the darkness hanging over the future of everyone for a consideration The young ladies have a laudable purpose pur-pose in view that of contributing to a fund for the aid of the poor in our city and their efforts should be rewarded by generous patronage We prophecy success for the venture Mrs Woodward gave s luncheon on Wednesday pleasant informal affair in compliment to the Misses Douglas The guests were the Misses the Industrial Home The afternoon was given to a discussion of the Worlds fair especial attention being given to the art exhibition A straw ride furnished great pleasure for about a dozen of our youngest young people Friday evening The jolly party left town in their queer conveyance at 8 oclock and jolted gaily along the State road returning about 11 oclock The party was chaperoned by Misses
