Show THE 3TONTJHENT TO GRANT The Western Union Local Office to Receive Subscriptions The following telegram has been received re-ceived by A L Horner superintendent Denver Rio Grande Railway Company Com-pany and H M Scott manager Western Union Telegraph office at this city OMAHA NEBRASKA July 30th 1885 The following is forwarded for your information Please have it carried out as requested CHICAGO ILLINOIS July 30th 1885 To J J Dickey Superintendent Western Union Telegraph Union Omaha Nebraska Ne-braska The executive committee of the Western Union Telegraph Company resolved at its meeting today to subscribe sub-scribe the sum of 5000 towards the fund for a monument to General Grant It alsoresolved that the managers of the offices of the company should be instructed to receive subscriptions to the fund from the public Please therefore there-fore instruct your respective managers by telegraph to display in their offices notices to the effect that they are pr pared to accept such contributions and to give informal receipts there for which receipt will be subsequently subse-quently replaced by formal receipts eebJ thoan he t E from the committee of the Grant Monument Monu-ment Association which has been appointed ap-pointed by the mayor of the city of New I York The simplest way to account for the subscriptions will I think be for each manager to provide himself with a subscription book in which under appropriate ap-propriate heading he shall request each subscriber to write his own name his postoffice address and the amount of his subscription andfor wllich the manager man-ager will give an informal receipt in the following form viz Received of this date the sum of dollars as a contribution contribu-tion to the Grant Memorial Fund which money is to be forwarded to the association associa-tion having charge of the fund through hoen fe t1fethwre nth the treasurer fe the Western Union Telegraph Co This receipt is to be replaced re-placed later by a formal receipt the Grant Memorial Fund Association Signed Manager Western Union i Telegraph Office at Each manager shall then remit to the Treasurer or to his superintendent as tiie rule of his office may be the amount subscribed up to the time of his next regular remittance accompanied by a transcript of his subscription book The subscription book Shall be forwarded for-warded to New York for audit when the subscription is finally closed It is important im-portant to have the notices posted and the general public advised as early as possible Signed It C CLOWBY General Superintendent |
