A revival had beeu in progress fcr several nights, and in the course of his sermon that evening, Mr. Millard, the pastor, re-lerred re-lerred to a class of persons who were religious in the ehuicli and worldly and irreligious 0"t of it, and spoke oi a man who was a member of that congregation con-gregation h ho answered to that character. char-acter. At this accu-ation Mr. Peter M. DeCamp, who is a member of the church, sprang to his ieet in an ex ciied manner, aud cried out : '"iSame the man ; who is it ?" The minister proceeded with his discourse, when Mr. DoUamp again interrupted him with the exclamation exclama-tion : "Who is it ? Do you mean me ?" The minister said that his remarks were lor general application, but that"il the slloo tit mm lie coutu wear it. That was too much for Peter's combative com-bative temperament, and he again sprang to his feet and used expletives of an emphatic character. The minis tcr undertook to continue his discourse, when Mr. DeCauip took possession ol the lamp (which belonged to him) by which the minister was reading. But this did not succeed in stopping the services, and a daughter of Mr. He Camp cried out, "Shut off the gas, father," which Peter immediately did, leaving the minister aud audience enveloped en-veloped in darkness. The room was soon empty, aud Mr. DeCamp, who is oue of the trustees, locked the door aud departed for home. jh'untern pa-P pa-P ' ' |
