Show THE YOUNG MEN AT WORK Homing Speeches and Great Enthusiasm Again Last Night There was another big rally at the hal of the Young Mens Democratic club 221 south Fifth West last night The first speaker was J H Murphy foreman of the Union Pacific round house and one of the best known railway men in the west Mr Murphy took for his subject the wealth of the world as distributed between be-tween the rich and the poor showing that under the protective system the money and other property drifted into the hands of those who do not work themselves but who subsist upon the labor of others The progress made by the people of the United States he said was not due to 1 prohibitive pro-hibitive tariff but to the character of the people and the condition of the country at large J C MoNally followed He is one of the moat energetic workers in the party and the Young Mens club gave him a rousing welcome He handled the tariff question in a very instructive manner and alleged that the Republican party is responsible for the demonetization of silver At pres ant however silver was not a party issue ent When the tariff was first inaugurated it was yory small compared to what it is now and the understanding was that it would soon be done away with He enumerated several articles most of them necessaries of life on which the price had been raised by the McKinley bilL I it is a good thing to have cheap sugar why not have other goodS cheap 1 J H Rumel jr followed In a brief but convincing speech and after him came T F Howells and Joseph Bywater J B Timmonya characterfstio speech drew rounds after rounds of applause and when he predicted the election of Grover Cleveland ho was cheered to the echo Then he said goodbye to the Utah commission tQ tlja Pee Wee governor and dishonest el toz G A McLean followed He had no use for a citizoHs ticket I the citizens of Salt Lake county desired a pure and a clean administration they could get it by voting the Democratic ticket Another rally will be held by the club on Monday next |
