An article was published fa the iurata yesterday morning, stating that a movement was on foot fa thia city to hict at first intended to be P1?"built upon the ruins of the Chrosticle. which was expected to give its last gasp on the Slat. That the whole article was a tissue of lias, goes witlioiit saying. Its publication in the UenU is proof of .that. The only foundation for such an article was the fact that several Democrat! of thia city, being filled with unutterable disgust by the attempt of the Herald to serve its Mormon God fa Democratic livery, have discussed among themselves the propriety of establishing a Democratic piper in this city. These gentlemen have yet determined npon all of their efTorts having been nothing, confined to talk. But now comes the funny part of the matter. It is r n fact in financial circles that the Herald is overburdened with debt, but it is not, perhaps, generally known that its liabilities aggregate the sum of $47,000, which it is unnecessary to say is far more than the whole concern ia worth, including the personal effects of eveiy one connected with it. The unfortunate gentlemen who hold the Herald! g worthless paper, realising that under the present management neither the principal nor interest of the debt would ever lie paid, and being unwilling to any longer shoulder the responsibility of such a forlorn rags existence. no sooner heard of the project to start a Democratic paper in this city than they rushed to the projectors of the' movement and made overtures, with a view to transferring the Herald, debts and all, to the new party. In fact, they offered to give the paper to any one who would take its debts. It conld hardly expected that such a proposition would meet with favor, and the offer was de- ftiSimn. 6:LH a.iu. luiyua.m. ft.iua.iu. p.- T11E RAILROAD ACCIDENT. To give them publication would, in ordinary cases, be a gross violation of that journalistic courtesy observed by all papers in the land except the Salt Lake Herald and Deseret Xetci. Since the Herald has revelled in a persistent violation of all rules of courtesy and decency, we will treat it as it deserves to be treated, and allude to one little instance. Some weeks ago the Herald devoted a whole page to an account of the manner in whiuli a Win. Kussell, in this city, expected to inherit a handsome fortune. Not fifty people who read the article had ever heard of Dr. Bussell and less than half that number believed there waa a grain of truth in the article. It has since transpired that Kussell really does expect to inherit some money, although the sum is insignificant, com- Mired with the amount stated by the Herald, and the whole secret of that papers seal in the matter was the that the doctor could be inveigled into investing $15,000 fa Herald debts. Tbe doctor has not yet received his money and the Herald is therefore still in suspense. In view of all these facts, we will leave the public to judge, with what grace the Herald esn sjieak of the ruins of any paper. The public can also glance over the advertising columns of the Chbowi-cl- e and see if they can discover any indication of a last gasp. It is clearly apparent that one pape in this city is already in "ruins, finan cially speaking, and that paper is the Salt Lake Herald. But there are not enough of the ruins upon which to establish a new paier. The Herald will probably continue for a while, as it has done in the past, to eke out a miserable existence by standing off its creditors and employes, but the community will be heartily glad when such a journalistic hyena sinks into oblivion, ana it has but one step to go to reach that state. that it waa Jack Waite, ps report Maaantled pugilist, who called Dr. .Ltirt to Butte was erroneous.
