Show Those Expected Chinese Railroads. New Yobk, February 1. It is stated that no contracts for building railroads in China have as yet been placed, and though it is expected ex-pected America will have as good a chance as others in competing for the business, political po-litical and other considerations may, it is argued, give the work of construction into English hands. H. W. Twombly, of the China & Japan Trading Company, said: "I think the prospects pros-pects for constructing railroads in China are good. I am sure that neither the English, American, German nor any syndicates can be allowed to control or own railroads there. All we can do is to get the business oontract for doing the work, and I do not sea that American enterprise should be ignored in this prospect, though, of course, there are many considerations which mitigate against us." |
