Maguire says that the Graus were entirely en-tirely misrepresented by the Laramie and Salt Lake papers, that the company are all able to stand on their own merits, and that he has sufficient confidence in the intelligence of the people of Helena to appreciate the barnstormers notwithstanding notwith-standing adverse criticism. Quite true, every word of it, as seen through Ma-guire's Ma-guire's end of the telescope, but from our end the view is vastly different. The Grau outfit were not only not misrepresented misrepre-sented by the Salt Lake press, but were unable to stand on their merits and so were obliged to close a four nights engagement en-gagement by shipping out after the sec-I sec-I ond performance. There never was such unanimity with the ' press of this city as in pronouncing the Graus as the worst possioie outnt tor an opera company that ever struck this city. Furthermore", we have "sufficient confidence in the intelligence in-telligence of the people of Helena" that we do not hesitate to sav that they will not be appreciated in Helena, but will get the same treatment there as they got here. However, Maguire understands his business, and calculates to get back that $1,400 he advanced Grau, if all Montana has to be bled to do it. The Leavitt Combination. Leavitt's All-Star Specialty Company of some twenty-five members, opened their four nights engagement at the Theatre Thea-tre last evening to a rather slim house, in consequence of an opposition performance perform-ance in the Opera House. The performance perform-ance affords an endless variety of amusement amuse-ment in the shape of songs, dances, gymnastics, gym-nastics, jugglery, bicycle feats, instrumental instru-mental music and all the numerous spe- j cialties of a vaudeville entertainment. The marionettes received hearty applause ap-plause as a new and interesting feature. Valjean is an artist - in I his pigeon acts and clever top tricks. The Martell family of four are simply great, the two male members doing some of the finest feats in tumbling and general athletics ever witnessed 'in Salt Lake. The bicycle riding of little Miss "Martell, scarcely five years old, called forth loud applause from all present. Miss Mollie Wilson, along with the others of the company, composes a very fair entertainment en-tertainment which should draw a better house this evening. The Police Court. " . .Peter Jensen, for a plain drunk, was fined to-day $5. W. Consel, for the same offense, was assessed the same amounts D. B. McCowley, charged with being drunk, turned out to be insane. When the Judge asked him his plea to the charge, he spoke up, "Oh, yes; she tried to run a wire through my head. The woman insisted on running a wire-through wire-through my head." Finding that he had a non compos mentis before him, lie returned re-turned McCowley to the jail to await examination ex-amination by the physician, - Salt Lake City Brewing Company. M. Cdllen, h. W . Cooke of this city, was greatly grieved yesterday by the receipt of a. telegram announcing an-nouncing the death of her father at Warren, War-ren, Ohio. Deceased was for a number of years a tutor in Dana's Musical Institute, Insti-tute, at Warren, and was a musical composer com-poser of more than ordinary merit. His remains were taken to Waynesburg, Pa., his former home, for interment, where a sorrow-stricken widow and four children child-ren will pay their last earthly respects to them. Miss Gertrude alone will be absent ab-sent from this sad duty. She, however, must try and bear up bravely, and remember re-member that she has the sincere condolence condo-lence of kind friends in this city, and of her schoolmates and tutors all. j The Elk Saloon.
