Show O I PLATFORM Adopted by the Democratic Territorial 10 1884 torial Convention Juno The Democratic party of Utah in Territorial Terri-torial Convention assembled recognize as accepted principles of the Democratic party I 1 That n just powers of governments are derived from the consent of the governed gov-erned and in all cases where these powers are ascertained and determined by decisions of courts of last resort their judgments are conclusive of all questions of power decided and binding on every citizenr and all attempts to call i question or defeat I them are factious and revolutionary 2 That the public domain i the inheritance I inherit-ance Tat American people and ought to be held for the exclusive use of actual Betters Bet-ters That all monopolies are inimical to the liberties of the people and to republican institutions lberies pople stitutions legislative grants of vast areas of the public domain to corporations of late tinder Republican administrations years uder Republcan adsttion have vastly increased this public danger by aggrandizing the few and oppressing the many 4 That separation of church and state is a fundamental principle adopted from the light of experience in the establishment of this Republic 5 That the common schools and all educational establishments supported at public expense ought to be independent of all sectarian control and free from books all al sectaran teaching doctrine and 6 That every citizen invested with the right to vote possesses the corresponding right of exercising that franchise free from the dictation or question of any one and the enforcement of unanimity of voting among its members by any socalled religious re-ligious organizations i destructive of the right of suffrage and subversive of free I institutions 7 As a further declaration of principles I in respect to a subject of great and growing importance to Utah and all surrounding I States and Territories evil which is forcing forc-ing itself upon public attention as a factor in National politics Resolved That it i the solemn duty of the I Government to provide a suitable law for suppressing the practice of polygamy in the Territories and proper officials to enforce I it that this gigantic evil which has so long flourished i spite of the zeal of Republican conventions and the apathy of Republican administrations shall cease HEADQUARTERS COUNT J HQUT DEMOCRATIC COME f J A mass meeting of the Democrats of Salt Lake county who indorse and support the Platform adopted by the Democratic Territorial tonal Convention June 10 1884 is hereby called to convene at the Federal CourtRoom in Salt Lake City on Wednesday July 15 1885 at 8 oclock p m for the purpose of nominating a Democratic ticket consisting of five members of the Legislative Assembly and one selectman to be voted for at the annual election to be held on the first Monday Mon-day of August next and for such other business busi-ness as may be properly submitted to said meeting J By order of the Democratic County Committee Com-mittee JOHN A TVrBHTTATTi M B SOW Secretary Chairman |
