Show TIE 0 K G EXTRATAGANZA Play with Amateur An Amateur ih Talent but EnjoyedT > y All J The matinee and evenhig performances at the Theatre Saturday were largely attended at-tended and0 K Ginall its amateur glory was presented to the public Of the comedy or whatever one may call t little can be said and of its adaptability adapt-ability to the players still less The piece is crude overruns with stale slang circus jokes and schoolboy wit and seems to consist chiefly of scenes from better comedies with the better points carefully left out I looks as if it might be the literary work of the dramatic editor of the Salt Lake Herald still the DEMOCRAT does not wish to bring such a serious Charge against him So much for the < play But if there were no points of particular merit in the play what shall be said of our amateur players Pretty the girls in one or two pretty choruses marine drill of the tots admirably executed undoubtedly turned the scale and made 0 K G the success it was Walter Clawson as Aunty Whiffles played the part as fine as it could have been played and brought out whatever there was in the character Mr JFroil Cltvwcon and Mr John White have appeared to much better advantage heretofore and beter in 0 K G have not struck their individual in-dividual lines Mr Sel Clawson did some good amateur work in his parts as did Mr Whitney The part of Ophelia rendered by Miss Clara Morris was a rnlit to thilt voune lady and went far t1t yount to redeeming the performance I But to the little ones in the marine drill belongs the chief credit Attired in jaunty sailor suits carrying miniature muskets and marching with a precision and uniformity which drew forth the wonder of the audience the marines held the stage for fully fifteen minutes and filed off amid the loudest applause of the evening Miss May Alien and Mr Fred Clawson who instructed the children in the drill certainly deserve much credit for the splendid result of their efforts The chorus from the Bells of Corneville was encored and Bels point of merit Withal the audience audi-ence dispersed and notwithstanding whatever crudities 0 K G possessed it was generally conceded that the novelty of the piece had furnished an evenings pleasant entertainment |
