called the i mooting to order and moved that ColonelS Colonel-S A Merritt be elected chairman which was promptly carried I Colonel Merritt made ROle very appro i priate remarks in which ho said he was linppy to be called upon to preside over this I meeting in support of the first Democratic ticket here in the field and he was pleased to see so many young men come out ot Egypt i and join the progressive party abreast with the times He had always thought it proper to have the national politics in the held in Utah The many grand principles of the Democratic party were alluded t which guaranteed equal rights among other favors fav-ors to the young men of Utah He spoke of young men leiiig criticised and impugned for espousing the cause of Democracy but said in turn that it required was formed by thirteen colonies all of which had protective laws definina polygamy as a crime and all the States followed > hr fol-lowed in the same line as had been done by every civilized nation
