Show Emma Nevada on the Comstock. : It was a. royal reception tendered to Emma Nevada in Virginia City on Thursday. Thurs-day. Her special car "Nevada" was detached de-tached from the train at Carson, says the Virginia Chronicle; as it was found by measurements that it could baiely pass through he Homestead tunnel at Gold Hill. As the train pulled into the depot Emma stood on the rear platform of the last coach and saluted the crowd by waving her handkerchief and smiling graciously, and was greeted in turn by a general clapping of hands. Bill Mooney was in waiting at the platform plat-form with an open landau drawn by four blacks glittering in gold-plated harness. After alighting from the train the songstress was escorted to the carriage by W. E. "Sharon, and accompanied by her husband, father and two members of the troupe, entered and was driven south on E street up Taylor, to C, south to Sutton avenue and thence to the fine residence of Superintendent Sharon on North B street, where she will be a guest during her stay in the city. On the route down C street Nevada saluted sa-luted the crowds that lined the sidewalks by waving her handkerchief, and -presented a charming picture sitting in the open landau arrayed in a superb traveling travel-ing costume. A splendid ovation was given her in the evening at the Opera House, as every seat had been taken.and it is estimated there were 2,000 people assembled to welcome her to the Corn-stock. |
