Show AJT INCESTUOUS OLD WRETCH. Seventy Years Old and Cut Off the Church for Corrupting His Daughter. Sensations and rumors of sensations are current topics in Salt Lake City at the present time, bnt it must not be supposed sup-posed that to Salt Lake City is confined all the startling events of the day, for a story comes from Huntington, Emery county, which shows that the rural dis- j tricts are in no wise behind in their efforts ef-forts to keep in the procession and help add to the notoriety of Utah as one of the rottenest moral communities in America. It appears that at the little town of u4.; ij i e xiuuiuigiuu itu uiu uiau, Bcveuiy v ci.ua ui age, runs a little store, and while his stock of worldly goods is necessarily limited, lim-ited, he has laid up a few Celestial treasures treas-ures and made himself solid in the matrimonial matri-monial hereafter by having three connubial connu-bial partners sealed to him after the manner, and fashion of the Latter-day religion. Under these circumstances, and, as Hamlet might remark, now that the heyday hey-day of youth is not in his veins, the story that follows of this old man's depravity is truly revolting. But that, it is true, i there can be no question, for the Democrat has the particulars in the case from a source unimpeachable, and is prepared to substantiate the fact3 here published. The third wife of this aged lecher has a daughter, at present 14 years of age, and it is with her his own child that the story is connected. For some time past the neighbors have been suspicious sus-picious that all was not right in the family fam-ily relations of the old man, and jealousy amons the wives at last caused the horri ble disclosure that during three years past their respected and celestial-that-is-to-be protector, and through whom they are to attain the position of Queens in Heaven, had been occupying the same I bed with his young daughter ; a state of affairs which the girl does not deny, and for which of course she cannot be held responsible. re-sponsible. Many little indiscretions and infringements infringe-ments upon the moral code are overlooked over-looked and winked at in the settlements of the size of Huntington, particularly when so isolated that communication with the outside world is infrequent, but here was such a rjrettv mess, and sn wll authenticated, that the church officials dare not ignore it, and aftar a review of the case the gray-headed criminal who had indulged his hellish lust at the expense of his own daughter's honor and purity, was excommunicated from the church. And that is all the punishment that can be meted out to him. for,Utah has no law in relation to incest and other immoralities which are frowned upon by the entire monogamic world, and which should consign the violators to a term of years in a prison cell. The attention of the Deseret News, which is just now engaged in a high moral crusade, is called to the facts in this article. Perhaps the News can then explain why it is the Mormons are all virtuous and the Gentiles are all debauchees. The News has performed several remarkable logical somersaults recently, and should find no difficulty in straightening out a little matter of this kind. |
