The smelting company have commenced com-menced operations in earnest at Bnllionville, Bnllion-ville, Nev., says the Pioche Record. They have now some thirty men at work grading" grad-ing" and ' laying the foundation for the Stedefelt furnace, which is going to be the largest of the kind on the coast. The foundation is to be of solid masonry 80 feet in length, 13 in width and 5 high. It will be a month yet before the bricklay- j ers can get to work, and two more before the furnace can be completed. One hundred hun-dred thousand more brick will be required to complete the building, a contract for that amount having been given to a Mr. Morris, of Salt Lake City. It is estimated that the entire cost of leaching plant and furnace will reach $75,000. Chicago has 12,000 more children of j school age than her school buildings can accommodate.
