Erom tha Jackson (Mich.) Cititrm, August 17. . A warrant was sworn ont yesterday, before Justice Dyer, for the arrest of Ira Gaviit, of the town of Summit, for assault and battery upon William Henry Forbes, a boy whom he bad . employed upon his farm. The complaint.alleged that Gdritt wrta wont to tie the boy up in a room, and otherwise misuse him. The warrant was placed in the hands of policemen Pierson and Gilson, who proceeded to Summit and arrested Mr. Gavitt. Mr. Pierson went to the field to serve the warrant, while Mr. Gilson remained behind to watch the boy, who was supposed to have been tampered with on a previous occasion, he refusing to appear against Mr. Gavitt when a similar warrant had been issued. While conversing with the lad and Mrs. Gavitt, Mr. Gilson was informed by the latter that the boy was natural born kleptomaniac, stealing everything that he could get his hands upon, and that he possessed a very peculiar amf strange appetite being always hungry, and, unless watched, eating everything of att edible nature that he could et his hands on. To show his abilities tit this line, the boy was in the first place given two I,arge apples, ahich he crunched up like a hog. Then came a raw egg, which he crushed iu his mouth and swallowed, shell and all. Mrs. Gavitt then gave him two quarts of bread and milk, which he devoured. Mr. Gavitt came in with Mr. Piersop, at this point, and in obedience to Forlies request, prepared half a dozen raw eggs, which he ate in the aarne manner as an dog working the shells out of his ntouth. As a breathing spell he now took a large ear of corn, which was followed with a sauce dish full of sauce, several cucumbers and a large slice of pork. The officer interfered, and would not allow him to eat more. Mrs. Gavitt says that be eats all the raw eggs he can get hold' of, and that whenever a ehitken was killed, he would sieze the fowl und suck the blood flowing front the neck. Two years ago, while killing a cow, Mr. Gaviit left & boy to watih the carcass w bile he was away for a little while. He returned in twenty minutes, and found that little Forbes bad licked the blood entirely from the hide which had just been taken off the animal ! The boy and Mr. Gavitt were taken to the city, and brought before Justice' Dyer, who bound the man over to apWhile in the court room, pear the boy aked Mr. Gilson to get him some raw meat. He procured him something over a pound, which he detoured ns greet! dy as a vulture, and then asked for a couple of quarts blood to wash it down. The officer said that he could not get him any, but that be would havejtome for him This forenoon the ,case- again came up, but. was adjourned over until Tuesday on account of the unavoidable absence 6f an important witness. The boy informed us that he took home with him last night a lot of peanuts and a half peik of apples, which he devoured on the way. On arriving home, Mr. Gavitt says, he made away with six large, ears of corn, and two griddle cakes of the size of a No. 9 stove hole.
