Show Plans Approved Approval Student Center On Campus Utah Tech's student center a year ten-year dream is getting closer to reality Preliminary plans for the estimated 12 million structure already have been approved by bythe bythe bythe the State Building Board Pres Jay L. L Nelson recently recent recent- ly set a target date of Aug 16 for submitting the final working plans to the building board If this happens Pres Nelson thinks the final plans could be approved by the end of August With construction bidding out of the way a contract could be issued by Oct 1 according to Pres Nelson Perhaps at least a year will willbe willbe willbe be required to build the student center With luck Utah Tech could be cutting ribbons on two buildings the Technology Building Building Building Build Build- ing and the Student Center by bythe bythe bythe the start of the 1972 school year That wi will II be the end of the year 10 dream S t u de fees have been collected for the past 10 years and they amount to about right now The remaining funds to build the student center will come from a public bond issue A Salt Lake City firm Burrows Smith and Co is handling the bonding arrangements Some funds also have been donated by alumni and friends of the college The student center was designed by William M. M Browning partner in the architectural architectural architectural archi archi- firm of Scott Louie and Browning of Salt Lake City To be built in a phase first-phase one level style the sq ft structure will have dining and snack areas a college store games room and alumni offices and lounge ties The student center will be located immediately west of the technology building construction site With the technology building building build build- i ing ng and student center on campus reshuffling of building space is purely guesswork now Perhaps the most talked of change is bringing the practical nursing programs to the electricity and electronics wing of the administration build build- ing mg Architectural drafting and drafting and design space on the third floor also will be available for new and expanded classes t c 1 a a r o. o I 1 o. o v.
