| Show i I r Dead days ys alive but still in critical condition t 1 Y r t Ale Alison Ison Th Thornton orn t on onI I News Editor N Wednesday April 7 Student ON Sena Senate te passed the dead days daysI I proposal it has now been submitted to toI I the Faculty Senate for approval In a memo given to Faculty Senate President Melodee Lambert Student Senator Brian Masse referred to the lack of dead days asa serious situation n for forr forthe the SLee f r Dead days is a time given to students during finals week to study Students would be expected to attend class but instructors would not be allowed to present new m material It would be a time for review Masse also has requested that the Faculty Senate give time during a meeting meeting meeting meet meet- ing to the Student Senate to address the issue of dead days stating that a better understanding of the proposal would come from a face to face meeting To accompany the memo Student Senate prepared a packet The packet covers many concerns regarding the lack of dead days at Included under the section problems was the grievance encountered encountered encountered en en- countered by students trying to prepare for finals while being assigned new material to learn Student Senate feels that this leads to student overload overload overload over over- load and exhaustion In addition there were comments made by students and faculty expressing expressing expressing express express- ing dissatisfaction with the current policy Examples include math tor Ray Gilbert and developmental t studies instructor Candice who gave perso personal al views on d dead ad days Also included were other college and university policies and the benefits the the students would receive if the proposal passed For example U V of U V BYU and Utah State allow one week of study time while uvee is given one day There has been no word on when the Faculty Senate will discuss the dead 1 days proposal |
