Four of the young people taken to Provo were runaways from Aurora, Colo., where they have been charged with stealing the car Salina Police found them in last week. Salina officers located a runaway girl from Torrance, N.Y. and reunited her with her father. Officers also released two other youths to their Salina parents after the youths were charged with shoplifting. Three other juveniles were referred to Provo because of shoplifting charges. A hearing on the UEA Legislative Program was held Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. in the Salt Palace. Proposals for the UEA House of Delegates meeting Oct. 31 were discussed at the hearing. The building was moved shortly after a new structure was erected to serve the towns mailing needs. The quaint little building had served Redmond for 41 years, but Redmonds postal beginnings go back nearly 30 years before that. Peter F. Peterson became the second postmaster on Sept. 1, 1894. He served until Christian Jensen, Jr. became postmaster on Dec. 15, 1897, when the post office was moved into the store he operated where the Whiteys General Store now stands. Mr. Jensen moved to Canada and sold his store to Niels FYandsen, who But it didnt always belong to Axtell. It used to belong to Redmond. (To be technical, it always belonged to the federal govemmenta. ) The first post office was established in Redmond on March 19, 1887, with James B. Sorenson, Sr. as its first postmaster. The post office was located in a store building west of the J.B. Sorensen home. The building served Redmond's Post Office for several decades before being moved to Axtell in 1956. Stella Peterson followed Alta Bills as postmaster. The post office was located on the LN. Parker property. When the Petersons purchased the George Christensen property, the post office was moved west of their home. Mrs. Peterson was appointed postmaster April 29, 1925 and served 28 years, until ill health forced her to retire. On Jan. 31, 1954, Douglas Rex (Continued on Page 2) i |
